"Warren Horr [Sr.] went with his father to New Salem, Franklin Co MA, then moved to Shutsbury, [Hampshire Co, now Franklin Co] MA where he was at one time town treasurer, and later to Lewis County NY with his brothers, Jacob and Robert Horr. He was a millwright, and blind for forty years." -Norton T. Horr.

I have no other indication Warren went to New York than Norton's book. Warren's father, Robert II Horr, was listed on the 1810 census for Denmark, Lewis Co, NY. His brother Jacob's son Elijah was born in Lewis Co New York 1804. His brother Robert moved to Lewis Co, NY about 1801-2, and is on the 1807 census for the west part of Denmark Twp. The 1810 New York census list Warren's siblings in their own households; Elizabeth, Israel, Sarah, and Isaac. Living with their parents were; Willis, Elijah, Mercy and Judith. Jacob was not listed as a head of household but another child was born there in 1812. Brother Robert had a child born in Ohio 1810.JVS

If Warren and Olive moved to New York they were back in New Salem MA by 1810. "Simeon Pierce of New Salem in the county of Hampshire, housewright, sells land in New Salem to Warren Hoar on 6 December 1808. (Franklin County, Massachusetts Deeds." (Note surname spellings.) I have their last child's 1813 birth as Denmark Lewis Co NY, but I question the location. Their eldest son Abner was listed on the 1820 Denmark, Lewis Co NY Census as head of household. Son Warren remained in New Salem, Franklin Co, MA to raise his family. Daughter Olive raised her family in mostly in Greenfield, Franklin Co, MA. Another son Marcus also went to Denmark, Lewis Co, NY to raise his family and was listed there for the 1840 census as a head of household.JVS

Warren and Olive buried seven of their ten children. Olive was pregnant with her fifth child (Hannah) when two (possibly three) of their four children died in April 1799. Daughter Hannah died two years later and then in 1808 their eighth child died as an infant. Olive was 38 yrs old at the birthing of her last child. They lost two daughters as adults. Warren became blind about the time their last three children were born. If Warren was blind the full 40 yrs then he was approx 47 yrs old when he lost his eyesight, 1816. .JVS

Robert, and his family, lived in Dartmouth, Freetown & Middleboro, of Bristol Co MA. He bought land in Dartmouth, there in 1768. In 1773 "of Dartmouth" when be bought land at Freetown. Sold part of his holdings in 1785. The rest in 1791 after moving to New Salem, before 1790. While living in Freetown, in 1778, he was a sergeant under Capt. Henry Pierce of 4th Co. Middleboro, he served as commissary collecting forage. Note there are five Pierce marriages in this couples descendants.

1st child Warren returned to/stayed in Massachusetts, four children resided in New York; 2nd child Elizabeth, 4th Israel, 8th Elijah, and 11th child Mercy. The 3rd child Jacob went to Ohio, 7th Robert went to Illinois, and 12th Judith went to Michigan. The 10th, Isaac went to Ohio but returned to New York. JVS

Robert's half brother, Peter, lived in Middleborough, Plymouth Co, MA. Little is known of him. He married Mercy/Marcy Pierce and by census appears to have had two sons and three daughters with unknown names.

Robert's half brother, John, lived in Pelham, Hampshire Co MA. He married Abigail PEIRCE b: 24 Nov 1785 in Pelham, Hampshire, MA. Her parents were George Peirce & Sarah Pierce. Note spelling of surnames.

"Robert Hoar [senior] was a miller and operated a grist mill, which was operating yet in 1792 when it was sold by his son, John. He [Robert Sr.] divided his father's property with only surviving brother, William [the Deacon] in 1765. Robert was a prosperous and active citizen." Norton T. Horr

Jonathan Hoar married Abigail Pierce, and Rachel Hoar married Harmon Pierce-Peirce. Robert's son Peter Hoar married Mercy-Marcy6 Pierce. (Job5, Ebenezer4, Isaac3, Isaac2, Abraham1 PIERCE) I am still searching for the parents of Olive (Polly?) Pierce born 1771.

Could not find him as head of household in 1790 census.

Robert Hoar Sr. married three times. He had one son, Robert Hoar/Horr II with wife Sarah Willis. With wife Judith Tinkham he had three children; Peter, Sarah and Judith. His third wife Rachel had been previously married to Hoskins/Haskins or Hathaway and they had two children John and Rachel.

Robert married Sarah Willis on 8 Mar 1743 in Bridgewater, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts, USA. Sarah (daughter of Jonathan Willis and Abigail Stoughton) was born in Apr 1724 in Bridgewater, Plymouth Co., Massachusetts, USA; died on 13 Jan 1753 in Middleboro, Plymouth Co, Massachusetts, USA. Was a wheel wright at Taunton. Founded the Middleboro family. Moved to Middleboro, Massachusetts about 1712. Was a prosperous land owner and in 1741 he divided most of his property between his surviving sons, Robert and William.

Samuel Hoar and wife Rebecca Peirce had:
Samuel, b. Aug. 12, 1716; d. April 5, 1736.
Robert, b. May 23, 1719; m. three times: 1st, Sarah Wuillis, who died Jan. 13, 1753; m. 2nd, Oct. 4, 1753, Judith Tinkham, who died Feb. 26, 1761; and he m. 3rd, Nov. 26, 1761, Rachel Hoskins. The Hoar family at Pelham are his descendants.
William, b. Dec. 30, 1721; m. Jan 31, 1745, Sarah, a daughter of Henry Hoskins, of Taunton, and granddaughter of William Hoskins of that town. William Hoar was Deacon of the 2nd Calvinist Baptist Church in Middleborough. He died April 25, 1795. Sarah his wife died Nov. 15, 1774. His posterity are in Middleborough, Lakeville and Freetown.
Jacob, b. July 7, 1724; died March 24, 1736.
The Hoar family were buried in the Caswell burial-ground in East Taunton, and from the dates on their tomb-stones I learn they died as above stated. The dates of their births and marriages were copied from the town records of Middleborough. Major Peter Hoar, an officer of the Patriot army in the American Revolution, was a son of Robert Hoar and 2nd wife Judith Tinkham. Maj. Peter Hoar died March 12, 1815, aged 60 years, and was buried in the cemetery of the Peirce family in Middleborough, now Lakeville. He left no children. Was one of the most excellent of the earth.

Beside the Nelson and Peirce families, among the early settlers of what is now Lakeville, was the Hoars, who prob- ably came from Taunton. Samuel Hoar married Rebecca Peirce, a daughter of Isaac Peirce, the soldier in Narragansett War. The children of Samuel Hoar and wife Rebecca, were Samuel, born Aug. 12, 1716, died April 5, 1736, Rob- ert, born May 23, 1719, married Sarah WilHs, of Bridge- water, she died January 13, 1753, and he for a second wife married Judith Tinkham, of Middleborough, Oct. 4, 1753, and she died Feb. 26, 1761. For a third wife he married' Rachel Hoskins, Feb. 26, 1761. ?W William, born Dec. 30, 1721, married Jan. 31, 1745, Sarah Hoskins, of Taunton, she was a daugh?C-er of Henry Hoskins of Taunton, a blacksmith, and born of his wife, Abigail Godfrey, and a grand-daughter of William Hoskins, of Taunton, a soldier in the Narragansett war. William Hoar, was deacon of the Calvinistic Baptist Church, herein noticed, of which the Rev. Mr. Hinds, was the first pastor. Deacon William Hoar, died April 25, 1795. Sarah, his wife, died Nov. 15, 1774. They were the parents of Braddock Hoar, a patriot soldier in the war for Independence, and who afterward removed to the State of New York.
