I have more information on the Hottois family and Pierre's brothers and sisters if you are interested. There are also a couple of websites on the family. There are two variations of the name - Hottois and Hottua. The Hottois variation has died out in Luxembourg. It is the same family, just a different way of spelling the name.

    Hottua, French spelling Hottois.

    June 2008
    Note from Kathy F.
I think that Nicolas always used the Hottois spelling, although other members (brothers and sisters) of his family used Hottua. Nicolas Hottois' given name was Jean Nicolas Hottois, but he always went by Nicolas. He had a brother named Jean.
The naming system was confusing to me for a long time. Apparently it was the custom to give the child the first name of the godparent of the same sex. So if the godfather of a son was named Jean, that child was named Jean. If a different Jean was the godfather of the next son, that son was also given the name Jean. It makes it confusing. This is the case with Nicolas' two sons Pierre.
.....the info on the children of Nicolas Hottois came from the civil records for Perl?e.
