Julia was the wife of Willis, who is also buried here. They were listed on the 1850 census in Champaign County, Ohio. Willis was listed as age 38, born in New York, and Julia A. was listed as age 36, born in Connecticut. Their children in 1850 were listed as Mary E., age 14, born in Massachusetts; William H., 12 NY; Olive M., 9 NY; Luther B., 7 NY; Frederick, 1 OH. ----- Willis & Julia were listed in Atchison County, Kansas on the 1865 state census with Luther and Frederick.
William H. Horr, of Atchison, Kansas, enlisted in September of 1861 in Co. C., 8th Kansas Cavalry. He was listed as a Sergeant and there are also records that he enlisted again early in 1864. Ancestry.com Civil War files state that he did not survive the war and list a "muster out" date of 12 September 1864.
The 8th Kansas Infantry Regiment saw action in several states and fought in a number of skirmishes and battles, including Chickamagua, Missionary Ridge, and Atlanta, with very high casualties. No specific burial details have been located for William H. Horr, but he is most likely one of the 10,000 or more Union soldiers who are now buried in the Marietta National Cemetery in Georgia.
Willis & Julia A. Horr were in Vermillion Township, Marshall County, Kansas by 1870. The 1875 state census lists them as ages 65 & 60, and they are listed next to the family of T. J. & M. E. Snodgrass. Julia A. Horr, age 83 and a widow, is listed with T. J. & M. E. Snodgrass in the 1895 state census. Most likely, she was the mother of Mary Emma Snodgrass.
Census reports lists the birth of Willis Horr around 1812 - 1815. He would have been around 50 years of age when the Civl War began and service records have not been found for him. He was old enough to have served in the Mexican War, but records have not been located.
