    Silvus Hoard, eldest son of Samuel and Deborah (Bigelow) Hoard, was born September 23, 1789, in Massachusetts, died September 23, 1828, at Niagara Falls, New York. He and his brothers caused the name to be changed to Hoard by act of legislature from state of New York. He lived in Ogdensburg, New York, where he was an agent for George Parish. Among other contracts he had that of building the Welland Canal, and was engaged in like work to the time of his death. He married, February 24, 1814, Nancy Mary, daughter of Louis de Villers. She was born in 1798, in Wilna, New York, died December 2, 1873. Her father was born in 1757, in France, died in this country in 1840. Children: 1. Charles Alexander, November 18, 1814, died San Juan, February 19, 1883. 2. George Seymour, August 25, 1816, died at Ogdensburg, November, 1856. 3. William Henry, November 17, 1818, died New York City, May 21, 1858. 4. Sophia, November 20, 1821. 5. Louis de Villers, mentioned below. 6. Nancy de Villers, October 20, 1826. 7. Harriet, January 29, 1829, died in childhood.

    To Stillman Foote, Surrogate of the County of St.Lawrence:
    The petition of Louis D.Hoard of the City of Chicago, Ill in -------- said
    ---------- County, RESPECTFULLY SHOWETH:
    That Nancy M.Hoard late of the Town of Oswegatchie in said County, departed
    this life in the Town of Oswegatchie aforesaid, on the 2d day of December
    1873, having previously, as your petitioner is informed and believes, duly
    made and executed her last Will and Testament.
    That your petitioner is one of the executors named in the said Will.
    That the said deceased was a citizen of the United States.
    That she was at or immediately previous to her death an inhabitant of the
    County of St. Lawrence, owning real and personal estate therein, and that
    said last Will and Testament relates to both real and personal estate.
    Your petitioner further shows that the heirs and next of kin of the said
    deceased are as follows, and none other or others, to the best knowledge,
    information and belief of your petitioner, viz:

    Sophia H Holmes of Ogdensburg NY
    Charles A Hoard of St Johns Porto Rico WI
    Sophia Woods, wife of John L Wood, S Louis MO
    That --------------, residing in the Town of -----------, aforesaid of
    full age, is the widow of said -----------, deceased.
    Your petitioner further shows that ----- is informed and believes, that
    the Surrogate of the said County has jurisdiction to take the proof of
    said last Will and Testament, and over the executor thereof, and the power
    of granting Letters Testamentary thereon, with all powers incidental thereto.
    And that ----- is desirous that such proof should be taken, and such Letters
    granted, and that such further of other proceedings in the premises should
    be had as are legal and proper.
    Your petitioner therefore prays that a Citation may issue out of and under
    the seal of this court, to be directed to the proper persons, pursuant
    to the Statutes in such case made and provided, requiring them and each
    of them, at such time and place as shall be in said Citation mentioned,
    to appear and attend the probate of said last Will and Testament, and that
    such further or other proceedings in the premises should be duly had as
    may be required, to the proving and recording of said last Will and Testament,
    and the granting Probate and Letters Testamentary thereof. And your petitioner
    will ever pray, &c.
