    Howard L. Hoard, 71, Babbitt, died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
    He was born on Feb. 3, 1925, to Peter and Nettie (Davis) Hoard in Cohasset. He was a member of VFW Post 1539, American Legion Post 535 and Senior Citizens, all of Babbitt, and United Steelworkers Union Local 4757.
    He is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Howard Michael of Mountain View, Calif., and Gerald (Nancy) Hoard of Eveleth; three daughters, Linda (Patrick) Quance of Omaha, Neb., Patricia Johnson of Richfield, Minn., and Rebecca (William) Constant of Corpus Christi, Texas; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Glenice Flug and Virginia Ploof, both of Grand Rapids; and Verna Mae Gravelle of Rice, Minn.
    Visitation: 1 until the 2 p.m. memorial services Saturday in Woodland Presbyterian Church in Babbitt. Arrangements are by Range Funeral Home, Virginia.
