Milton F. Hoard, age 74, of Gladwin, formerly of Ithaca, passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at home.
He was born the son of Lester and Bernice (McFarlane) Hoard on Nov. 3, 1935, in Ithaca.
He served briefly in the U.S. Navy until he was honorably discharged and returned home to graduate from Ithaca High School in 1956.
He married Marzella Ann Thum on Oct. 6, 1956. He was employed at Shults Equipment, Inc. from 1960 until 1981 when he became the owner, retiring in 1993. He was a lifetime member of Alma Elks Lodge. He also enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marzella; one son Mark (Karen) Hoard of Ithaca; two daughters, Michelle (Rick) O'Hara of Ithaca and Melinda Hoard of Traverse City; grandchildren, Scott O'Hara, Mark (Tina) O'Hara, Cindy Hoard (fiancee Tyler Moomey), Matthew and Jared Hoard; great grandchildren, Kimberly, Ian and Lochlan O'Hara; one sister, Beverly Berry of Ithaca; one brother, Carlisle Hoard of Battle Creek; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca, with Rev. George Showers officiating. Burial will be in the Ithaca Cemetery.
An Elks service will be held at 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions to American Heart Association or Sugar Springs Memorial Fund of Gladwin.

Lena May (Coleman) Hoard, 92, o f Meredith went to be with the Lord on Dec. 31, 2003 in Covenant Medical Center in Saginaw. She was surrounded by all of her beloved children and several grand and Great-grandchildren. She was born May 30, 1911 in Breckenridge, daughter of Roy Watson Coleman and Frances Leola Youry. She spent her younger years in Gratiot County. She married Archie Merrill Hoard on Oct. 27, 1928 in Wheeler in Gratiot County. They moved around to different areas and then settled in Meredith, Michigan. She was a member of the Skeels Baptist Church and attended every Sunday until it became to hard for her to get around. She then listened to the service on the Gladwin Radio Station. Lena was a participant in the First Lady Contest in the Gladwin County Centennial in Aug. 1975 and attended the Night Shirt Ball at the Queens Hall on Sept. 6, 1975 and won fourth runner up. She was very proud of this. She had a very sharp memory. She has 141 grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, and Great-great-grandchildren, and she could name each and tell you their birth dates.She was a great believer of doing the best you can do with what you have. Also, you can do anything if you set your mind to it.She will be missed by all of her family, four daughters, Carolyn Cowell, Norma Sharp, Lillian Leposky and husband John, all of Harrison, Michigan and Sheryle Hensley and husband Donald Sr. of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Three sons, Larry Hoard and wife Kay, Jerry Hoard and fiancee Janet Harte of Bath, Michigan and Sirwell Hoard and wife Dorothy of Hermann, Missouri. She waspreceded in death by a daughter Marlene in 1940, her husband Archie in 1976 and a son Roger in 1996. Funeral services were held Jan. 3, 2004 at Halls Funeral Home, Gladwin with Rev. George Coon officiating. Grave side services were held in Pleasant Plains Cemetery in Harrison, Michigan.

PATRICK J. O'NEILL, 73, of Sun City Center, Fla., formerly of Clifton and Lodi, died Monday. He was born in Scotland. Before retiring in 1981, he was a funeral director at Quinlan's Funeral Home, Clifton, for 31 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Catholic War Veterans and the Holy Name Society, both of St. Paul R.C. Church, and the Knights of Columbus, Perez Council, all in Clifton. Surviving are his wife, Marie Hoar O'Neill; a son, Kevin of Lacey Township; two daughters, Patricia Vasilik of Clifton and Eileen Dussia of Salinas, Calif., and eight grandchildren. Deceased Name: SEARS - William R.
SEARS - William R., 91, World War II Veteran and Recipient of the Soldier's Medal. A longterm resident of Clifton, died Saturday of complications of Parkinson's Disease at Hackensack University Medical Center. He was 91. Born and raised in Carlton Hill, East Rutherford, he attended local East Rutherford schools, excelled in sports, and was captain of the high schools basketball team. Additionally, he played Industrial League basketball and soccer for many years. Mr. Sears worked for more than fifty years at Continental Can Company beginning in the Passaic office and then transferring to Paterson where he was a photo lithographer before retiring in 1983. He also worked part-time at Johnson Drug Store and Clifton Pharmacy. For the past seven years he resided in Allendale, NJ. He was affectionately called "Google" by family and friends. He was a World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific as a B-24 Crew Chief. He was awarded the Soldier's Medal, the highest award for bravery in a non-combat situation, for rescuing two airmen from a burning plane. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His wife of 58 years, the former Delia M. Hoar of Passaic, preceded him in death in 1999. He is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Lynn Sears Byank of Phoenix, MD; Janice Sears Jaffe of Boston, and Denise Sears Moss of Ramsey, NJ. He is also survived by two granddaughters: Karen Byank Mathura of Bethesda, MD, Lisa S. Byank of Washington, DC, and a great-granddaughter, Kali A. Mathura of Bethesda, MD. NORTHFIELD -- Anne E. (Hoar) Cavallaro, 79, of 171 Winchester Road, died Sunday evening (3-22-09) at Applewood Healthcare, Winchester, N.H.
She was born in Bogota, N.J., on Oct. 8, 1929, the daughter of Edward and Agnes (Kelly) Hoar. She was a graduate of Fordham University in New York.
She was married to Dominic Cavallaro on June 27, 1975. They moved to Northfield from Islip Terrace, N.Y., in 1976. Mr. Cavallaro predeceased her in 2002.
She was a teacher of French and Latin and taught at several local high schools and finally at Keene (N.H.) High School for over 20 years, retiring in 2006.
She was an active member of St. Patrick's Church in Northfield.
She was an accomplished cook specializing in Italian dishes, and she loved animals, plants, and all of nature.
She is survived by her son: Joseph of Syracuse, N.Y., and brothers: Thomas Hoar of Mt. Arlington, N.J., and James Howard of Lincoln Park, N.J., and sisters: Patricia Rushforth and her husband James of Fanwood, N.J., Agnes Hughes and her husband John of Bogota, N.J., Margaret MacDonald of Santa Maria, Calif., and Terri McElroy and her husband Peter of Ridgefield Park, N.J., and two grandchildren, Joseph and Cassianne Cavallaro of Syracuse, N.Y.
Funeral services, all in Northfield, will be Wednesday (3-25-09) at 11:15 a.m. from the Kidder Funeral Home, 1 Parker Ave., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church at noon. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Deceased Name: Elizabeth Edwards
Elizabeth M. Edwards of Eugene died Dec. 27 of causes related to age. She was 83.
Edwards was born June 24, 1921, in Passaic, N.J., to Owen and Elizabeth Washington Hoar. She married Edwin Edwards on April 2, 1950. He died June 19, 1996.
She grew up in Clifton, N.J., and moved to San Francisco as a young woman. She later returned to Clifton, living there from 1962 to 1994. She was assistant vice president of a bank, after working her way up from a secretarial position, and took college courses in connection with her banking career. She enjoyed walking, reading, sewing and dancing.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne Edwards of Eugene; a son, Ed Edwards of Cotuit, Mass.; a sister, Evelyn Zardetto of New Jersey; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held later. Andreason's Cremation & Burial Service in Eugene is in charge of arrangements.

Renwick Hargrove Edgar,79, of Salisbury passed away peacefully Wednesday October 5, 2005 at the Moncton Hospital.

Born at Lutes Mountain he was a son of the late Leslie and Hazel (Sherwood) Edgar. Renwick was a veteran of the Second World War and retired as foreman with the former Lock-Wood Ltd in Scoudouc after 44 years of faithful service. He attended the Lutes Mountain Church of the Nazarene. Renwick was a devoted family man who took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He was a kind, gentle man respected and loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his children Danny (Phyllis), Salisbury ; Gail Hoar (Stephen), Boundary Creek; Debbie Lekas (Brian), Moncton; Brian (Nadia), Montreal; daughter in law Wanda Edgar, Salisbury ; grandchildren Anthony, Darcy, Blaine, Erin, Warren, Danette Edgar; Shawn, Cody and Tanner Edgar; Melissa and Crystal Hoar; Brandy and Corey Lekas; sisters Emily Horsman, Marlene Gillcash, Phyllis Gillcash (Norman); brothers Eldon (Arletta), Clarence (Joan), Aubrey (Joan) and by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his wife Doris; son Wendell; brother Charles.

Resting at the Salisbury Funeral Home, 3350 Salisbury Road (372-4800) with visiting Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral will be held from the Chapel of the funeral home on Saturday October 8 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Deceased Name: John J. Dwyer WFSB Channel 3 cameraman
WATERBURY - Mr. John Joseph "Specs" Dwyer, age 76, of Elliott Avenue, died Saturday, April 19, 2008, at Saint Mary's Hospital. He was the loving husband of Marie Josie (Flammia) Dwyer.
John was born July 31, 1931, in Waterbury, a son of the late John Joseph and Margaret (Hoar) Dwyer. He was a lifelong city resident and was a graduate of SS. Peter and Paul Grammar School and Sacred Heart High School, where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He played basketball for the Royals A.C., the East End Community Club A.C. and the Waterbury Travelers A.C. John proudly served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War, serving with the 44th Statistical Service Squadron at Chateauroux, France.
Prior to his retirement in 1993, John was employed as a cameraman at WFSB Channel 3, where he worked for over 24 years. He was a member of the National Association of Broadcasters employees and Technicians Union AFL-CIO (NABET). Following his retirement, he worked for several years as a crossing guard for the Waterbury school system. He was a social member of the Cave Restaurant, was an avid golfer, a member of the East End Community Club and a communicant of SS. Peter and Paul Church.
Besides his wife of 47 years, he leaves two sons, John K. Dwyer his wife Monique and their three children, Mark, Megan and Caitlin of Middletown and Vincent J. Dwyer of Waterbury; as well as six other grandchildren, Amanda, Vinnie, Jimmy, Tori, Ricky and Robert; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. from the Casey-O'Donnell Family Funeral Home, 1581 East Main St., to SS. Peter and Paul Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.

WATERBURY ? Sandra Lylia (Hoar) Claflin, 64, of Pinehurst Avenue, died Friday, Dec. 10, at Waterbury Hospital.
Mrs. Claflin was born Nov. 7, 1940, in East Machias, Maine, daughter of the late Lewis and Sara (Nelson) Hoar. She lived in Maine, until moving to Waterbury 30 years ago.
She leaves three daughters, Kerin Arsenault of Wolcott, Gina Rinaldi of Harlan, Iowa, and Cassandra Mansolf of Waterbury; a brother, Harold Jones of Virginia; a sister, Brenda Mikelskas of Wolcott, and eight grandchildren.

LONGMEADOW - Rita Mary (Hoar) Thrasher Stephenson, of Longmeadow died on Saturday April 23rd. Born in Springfield, she was the daughter of the late James J. Hoar and Mary E. (Noonan) Hoar. She graduated from the High School of Commerce, class of 1932. She moved to Emerson Manor in Longmeadow in 1980. There she was active in its Residents Association. She was retired from the Henry M. Clark and Co. Insurance Office, having previously worked at S.G. Simmons Co., the accounting department of Monarch Life Insurance Company, and spent several years as the office manager of accounting in the Chancery of the RC Diocese of Springfield for Bishop Weldon. Rita was an artist and a former member of the Springfield Art League. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Longmeadow and a member of its choir and Women's Guild. She was married to Edwin W. Thrasher, who died in 1956. Her second husband, Paul P. Stephenson died in 1972. She was also predeceased by her sister, Katherine E. Duffy and her brother, James E. Hoar. Rita leaves a daughter, Janet Thrasher Desnoyers and son-in-law, Raymond J. Desnoyers of Longmeadow; a stepdaughter, Bambah-Jean Riedel of Evanston, IL and several grand-nephews and nieces. Family and friends are invited to meet on Tuesday, April 26th at 10 a.m. for a Liturgy of Christian burial in St. Mary's Church, 519 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow. Burial will be private. She was a charter member of Church in the Acres (Baptist) and taught church school for many years. She graduated from the High School of Commerce. She was employed by the former H.R. Hunting Company for 34 years and retired from Baystate Medical Center (Wesson Memorial Unit) after 10 years. She is survived by her son William R. Dewey and three granddaughters, Kristina, Amanda and Emily of Pensacola, FL. and several nieces and nephews. Mrs Dewey was predeceased by her husband, Elmer R. SPRINGFIELD - Katharine Bernadine (Hoar) Ring, 95, passed away Monday December 26, 2005 in a local nursing home. Born in Springfield to the late David J. Hoar and Katharine T. (Hanley) Hoar, she lived here most of her life. She was predeceased in December 1971 by her loving husband of 28 years Charles Whipple Ring, a retired Master Sergeant. Katharine was a graduate of Our Lady of the Elms School, and later The Ballard Secretarial School in 1932. She then worked as a secretary in New York City, and later at Westover AFB in Chicopee. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in downtown Springfield and loved to travel and do needlepoint. Katharine is survived by her son-in-law Herbert J. Wheble of Springfield, her two grandsons James R. Wheble and his wife Janet R. of Las Vegas NV and Robert J. Wheble of Wilbraham; her two great-grandsons James R. Wheble and Jeffrey R. Wheble both of Las Vegas, and great-granddaughter Bridget M. Wheble of Wilbraham; and her cousin Elizabeth Hanley of Longmeadow. Besides her husband Charles, she was predeceased by her step-daughter Shirley M. (Ring) Wheble. CHICOPEE - Tanya E. Dennis, 23, died suddenly on Sunday September 30, 2007, in Maryland, as the result of an automobile accident. She was born in Holyoke on March 19, 1984, to Robert W. Dennis Jr. of Hudson, Fl, and Jo-Anne Dennis of Chicopee. Tanya attended local schools and graduated from Pathfinder Regional High School in 2002, where she enjoyed playing basketball, soccer and softball. Tanya had a special love for horses. She had previously worked for the Mt. Holyoke Equestrian Center and Fox Meadow Farm, she was currently working as a Horse Trainer at the Otasaga Farm in Maryland. Tanya had also previously worked for Hawley's Restaurant. Besides her parents, Tanya will be sadly missed by one brother Robert J. Dennis and his wife Jamie of New Jersey; one sister Carissa M. Dennis of Chicopee; her paternal grandfather, Robert W. Dennis Sr. of Springfield; her maternal grandfather John J. Hoar Jr. of Holyoke; one goddaughter Kasandra L. PORTLAND -- Robert Martin Malia, formerly known as Robert Martin Horr, 71, passed away at his Portland residence.
A lifetime Portland resident, he was born on April 27, 1940, to the late Dana O. and Anna E. (Malia) Horr.
Robert served in the Army stationed in Alaska in the 1960s. He served as a volunteer firefighter on Peaks Island
and worked at Concrete Forms with his brothers. He married Julie Dalfonso in 1968. He worked at General Electric
in South Portland, and for the City of Portland. Later, he worked at Infinity Federal Credit Union.
He is survived by his three children, Juliane Hillock and her husband Keith, Martin Malia and his wife Chang
and Joshua Malia; as well as five grandchildren, Brooke, Olivia, Julia and Edward Hillock and Nathaniel Hitchcock.
He is also survived by three brothers, James Horr, Dana Horr and David Hau and his wife Sharon, two sisters,
Margaret Presnell and her husband John, and Shirley D. Horr; a sister-in- law, Barbara Horr; as well as many nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, Richard Horr, William Horr and Anna (Horr) Maynard.
A memorial service will held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home,

Brother Bob, it would be a full book to say all I know and feel.
He lost mother when he was about 16 months old. With nine of us children,
I'm sure he did not get the personal care he needed. We had a wonderful
grandmother that stepped in to care for us. She gave all she had to give,
a lot of love. She kept us together. We all cared for each other.
We all helped in what way we could. I know of no other family that has
the closeness we all have for each other. Bob was a wonderful person all his life.
He had so much love and kindness. He never showed any anger, just love.
I'm going to miss him, but I'm happy for him - He's with Mother, where we all will be someday.
May he rest in peace. He is gone from here, but not gone from our hearts. Love you brother - sister Margaret

Graduate of Chicago Musical College and taught music at Earlville and Belvidere high schools. Directed the Methodist Church Choir in Rochelle in 1934 and for many years to follow. Organized and directed the Choraliers. Member of First Untied Methodist Church. Also member of P.E.O. Sisterhood, Womens Club, Service Club, Flagg Rochelle Historical Society, member for many years of Rochelle Hospital Auxiliary and member of Eastern Star, Troy Grove for more than 50 years. Survivors include daughter, Patricia (John) Ingmand of Ormond Beach, Fla. daughter-in-law, JoAnn Boltz of Muncie, Ind. six grandchildren four stepgrandchildren 11 great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren. Also predeceased by two brothers three sisters and son, Paul.

She would come to Rockford for short visits and stay with her niece, Carla (Steve) Bennett. Isabella had many nieces and nephews who loved her a lot, along with grandchildren. RUPPERT, Emily (Hunter) 72, of Newbury, MA, died peacefully at home on Plum Island on July 24, 2012. Emily was born in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Emily Davis and J. Paul Hunter Jr. of Nashville, TN. She was raised in Birmingham, AL and graduated from Shades Valley High School in 1958. She received a BA from Lindenwood College in Missouri and an MSW with honors from George Warren Brown School of Social Work at Washington University in St. Louis. As a young social worker in Missouri, Emily created the very successful Foster Community Program, which became a model for helping long-institutionalized adults transition to homes in the community. She studied various theories of psychology, including Transactional Analysis (TA), eventually obtaining Clinical Teaching Membership in the International TA Association. Integrating TA and Gestalt with more traditional theory, she established a psychotherapy and training practice in Milwaukee, WI, honing her belief in the power of groups, as well as individual and family therapy. She presented workshops for professionals and non-professionals around the country. In 1977 she moved to Boston, establishing a practice and expanding her training program to include professional training in England and Holland. She loved the natural beauty of New England, especially the marshes of Plum Island, and enjoyed traveling, dancing , meeting new people, and photography. Emily leaves a brother J. Paul Hunter III and his wife Frances of Birmingham, step-brothers Wayne Hoar and Chris Hoar, step-sister Derrel Hoar Sundock, niece Margaret Hunter Murray, and nephews James Hunter, Michael Hunter, and William Hunter. She is remembered fondly by countless friends, colleagues and clients for her warmth, humor, joie de vivre, sharp insights, and creativity. Burial is private and a memorial celebration of her life is planned for November 10, 2pm, at the First Religious Society (Unitarian Universalist), 26 Pleasant Street, Newburyport, MA.

A Williamstown resident, she lived in Haddonfield for 38 years before moving to Williamstown a year ago. She was born in Collingswood.
Mrs. Hoar was a retired telephone operator, working for 30 years for the Bank of New Jersey in its Camden and Moorestown offices.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield.
She is survived by her husband, Dellmar W.; a son, James D.; two daughters, Bonnie R. Friedman and Susan L. Ulmer; five grandchildren; two brothers; and a sister.

Mrs. Schermerhorn had been a telephone operator for New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. for more than 40 years. She was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Women's Army Corps from 1943 to 1944. She was a 1937 graduate of Collingswood High School. Born in Kirkwood, she was a longtime Haddonfield resident before moving to Westmont in the late 1960s.

Deceased Name: Allan Carroll Merritt Sr.
Allan Carroll Merritt Sr., 74, died Monday in Rutland.
He was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Rutland, son of E. Stanley and Ora (Bowen) Merritt. Mr. Merritt graduated from Rutland High School in 1943 and Norwich University in 1950. He was married to Beverly Hoar of Rutland on Sept. 30, 1950.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II (1943-1946) in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations. He also served in the U.S. Army, 11th Airborne Division, 710th Tank Battalion, during the Korean War.
He was employed by General Electric Co. in personnel administration for 20 years. He was also employed in insurance and real estate, having operated Merritt Insurance and Real Estate and Marvin Berger Insurance, and served as an independent broker. He also served as commissioner of public works for the city of Rutland from 1979-1981.
He was active in local affairs and was elected to the Board of Aldermen from 1963-1967, and again from 1975-1979, serving as board president in 1978 and 1979.
Mr. Merritt was past exalted ruler and a life member of Elks Lodge 345 in Rutland, and served as president of the Vermont State Elks Association in 1979-1980. He was a member of American Legion Post 31 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 648.
He was always interested in athletic events and actively participated in football, basketball and baseball during his high school and college years.
Survivors in addition to his wife are four sons, Allan C. Merritt Jr. of Burlington, William E. Merritt and Steven C. Merritt, both of Rutland, and James M. Merritt of Pittsford; a daughter, Lynn Burton of Rutland; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley R. Merritt and Howard B. Merritt.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Grace Congregational United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home. Members of the Rutland Lodge of Elks 345 will have a prayer service at 6 p.m.

SANFORD - Retired Army Staff Sgt. Joseph Nelson Hoar Jr., 80, of Sanford, passed away Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010. He was born and raised in Burnham, Pa., Sept. 30, 1930. He entered the Army on Aug. 11, 1949, and was a highly decorated veteran, serving in both the Vietnam and Korean wars, earning numerous awards for his valor. He served his country for 23 years, retiring on Feb. 1, 1972, from the 612th Quartermaster Company of Fort Bragg. Amongst other things, he served as canteen manager at the VFW Post 9103 for seven years and was a lifetime member. He then was employed as a mail distribution clerk at Fort Bragg FTCC for five years, until his final retirement in 1993. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Nelson Hoar; his mother, Mary Elizabeth Hoar; and a sister, Barbara Snook. He is survived by his wife, Elva A. Hoar of the home; daughter, Irene Snook Smithwick; two stepsons; sister, Norma Shepherd of Lewistown, Pa.; brother, Johnny Hoar; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his grandson, Joseph Smithwick and wife Heidi Smithwick; grandson, Patrick Smithwick and wife Tammy Smithwick; granddaughter, Crystal Smithwick Sutton and husband Danny Sutton; and nine great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Adcock Funeral Home & Crematory in Spring Lake from 6 to 8 tonight, Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010. Life time resident of south Seattle, Marilyn was born to John Leo and Margaret Elisabeth (Betty) Cormiae in Seattle. She was the oldest of 9 children. Marilyn graduated from Issaquah High School in 1954 and shortly married her 1st husband Richard E. Horr. They had 3 three children. This union ended after 14 years. Marilyn met her 2nd husband Peter R. Servo in 1970 at a country western dance club in south Seattle. They were married September 12, 1970 and enjoyed a life time of love for 41 years. She worked at SW Suburban Sewer Dist. as a bookkeeper for 25 years and retired in 1991. Marilyn loved cooking and being outside in her beautiful garden. You could always find her in the kitchen or outside working and enjoying her garden. She would never let anyone go hungry, always offering candy and treats to all who came. Marilyn is survived by her husband and love of her life Peter Servo (Tukwila), daughter Roxanne Horr (Renton), Richard E. Horr Jr. (Carnation), daughter Cheryl (Bob) Lensegrav (Enumclaw), 4 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, sisters Mary-Lou, Flossy, Karen, Patty-Sue, Laura and brother John, numerous nieces, nephews and brother/sister in-laws. SHEETS, JERRY RONALD Of Munith, MI, passed away at home under the loving care of his family and hospice on Monday, October 29, 2012 at the age of 77. Jerry was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marines Corp from which he retired from in March of 1972. Surviving are his wife of six years, Gloria; three children, Shane Sheets, Dawn (Jeff) Mellott, and Brian Sheets; 11 grandchildren, Jessica, Samantha, Tabitha, Brandon, Sierra, Kayla, Jessica, Jordan, Kaylee, Jessica, and Jeremie; two great-grandchildren, James and Jazamey; five brothers and sisters, Charles (Phyllis), Yvonne (Archie), Donna (Patrick), Ruth and Jim; sister-in-law, Lorraine; special friend, Michelle; numerous nieces and nephews; five step children, Vonda (Thomas) Benie, Patricia Saterlee, James (Sharla) Saterlee, Jennifer Craft and David (Joh-Anna) Bradley; nine step-grandchildren; two step- great-grandchildren. Deceased Name: SHERMAN HOAR, 73 WAS CIA AGENT FOR 12 YEARS
Sherman Hoar, a Central Intelligence Agency agent who became a woodcutter, sewage plant manager, teacher and real estate broker on the island of his boyhood summers, Martha's Vineyard, died of heart disease March 30 at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 73 and lived in Edgartown.
A graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard College in 1940, Mr. Hoar served with the Army Air Corps' 325th Fighter Group in North Africa and Italy during World War II, emerging as a major.
In 1951, when he was chairman of the Department of Industrial Administration at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, he was recruited into the CIA by one of his former students.
He spent 12 years in CIA work in Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, Lima, Peru, and, in the early 1960s, in the Belgian Congo, now Zaire. He left the CIA in 1963 after becoming unnerved by would-be robbers.
Back in Martha's Vineyard, he chopped and sold firewood at $60 a cord, taught at Cape Cod Community College and at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School and volunteered on the staff of the Dukes County Conservation District.
In 1978 he and his wife opened a real estate firm on the island. He also joined his wife in founding the Pet Adoption and Welfare Service, or PAWS.
Mr. Hoar also served on the executive committee of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, as commissioner of the Edgartown Sewer Commission, supervisor of the Dukes Conservation District and chairman of the Edgartown Fishermen's Association.
He leaves his wife, Harriet; two children from a previous marriage, Roger S. 2d of Cataumet and Ann B. Floyd of Edgartown; a sister, Caroline Baker of South Milwaukee; and four grandchildren.

WAYNE, Neb. -- Sandra Havekost Emry, 73, of Wayne died Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Providence Medical Center in Wayne.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Wayne. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hasemann Funeral Home in Wayne.
Sandra Jean Emry was born July 10, 1937, in Walthill, Neb., to Bernard and Bernice (Hoar) Havekost. She graduated from Hooper High School in 1954 and attended Wayne state College, earning a teaching certificate.
She taught country school until marrying Arnold Emry on May 22, 1955, in Hooper, Neb. Their first home was in Pilger, Neb,. and subsequent moves were made to Allen, Neb., Newell, Iowa, Vermillion, S.D., then to Wayne for her remaining years. Sandra graduated from Wayne State college in 1991. She was employed by Mines Jewelry, Sav-Mor Drug and then owned and operated the Near New Shop and later Kid's Closet.
Sandra was not only a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, giver of produce from her garden and flower beds, surrogate mother to many people, provider of baked goods, cooking and sewing expertise. She taught many classes on crocheting and knitting and also was an expert source of how to get things done.
Sandra is survived by her husband, Arnold; children, Patricia (James) McPherson of Lincoln, Neb., Gordon (Robin) Emry of Norfolk, Neb., Bradley (Kathleen) Emry of Isle of Palms, S.C., and Shelley (Terry) Gilliland of Wayne; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Judy Larsen of Hooper, Shirley (Bill) Bauer of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Belva Licht of Omaha; stepsister, Annette (Ed) Probasco of Scribner, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Barb Havekost of Greenbelt, Md., and Monya Havekost of Columbia, S.C.; numerous nephews and nieces; and longtime friend, Jean Hemmingsen of Storm Lake, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; half brother, John Havekost; stepbrother, Bernard Klahn; and brother-in-law, Delbert Larsen.
Memorials will be directed to the Wayne First United Methodist Church for their youth programs.

Joyce Darlene Mander, daughter of Walter and Flora (Hoar) Kelly, was born Jan. 28, 1928, at her parents' home four miles south of Onawa. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth and graduated from Onawa High School with the class of 1946. Following high school, Joyce attended Samuel's Beauty School.
On Dec. 29, 1946, Joyce was united in marriage to Elvin A. Mander at the Onawa Methodist Church parsonage with Rev. Harvey C. Travis performing the single-ring ceremony. To this union one daughter was born, Dorothy. The family made their home on a farm near Whiting. Joyce was a homemaker and also worked at Liz Ditman's Beauty Shop in Whiting for several years. In 1975, Joyce and Elvin moved to a farm near Onawa. Elvin passed away on March 25, 2005, and Joyce continued to make her home on the farm until moving to Pleasant View Care Center in 2006.
Joyce enjoyed cooking, canning and caring for her large vegetable garden. She had been a member of Whiting Christian Church and First Christian Church in Onawa.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Dorothy Wade and her husband, Richard of Onawa; two grandchildren, Dayne Wade and wife, Stephanie of Akron, Ohio, and Kelly Black and husband, Jeff of Knoxville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Aidan and Tyler Black of Knoxville; one brother-in-law, Elroy Mander of Crescent, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Lula Mae Mander of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Phyllis Mander of Onawa; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She also managed a dental practice while raising five children. Ginny's legacy is a celebration of life devoted to her large family. Paul Edward Strautz, the son of Fred and Bertha (Hoar), was born on Aug. 18, 1920, in Onawa, Iowa. He spent his childhood on a farm southeast of Onawa. He attended Onawa Public Schools and graduated in 1938. After graduation, he attended Iowa State College studying engineering and then attended and graduated from the Colorado School of Banking.
On Sept. 21, 1944, Paul entered into the military serving with the U.S. Navy during World War II. While in the military, he was an aviation electronic technician's mate. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 18, 1946.
Paul married Dorothy Baustian on March 3, 1943, in Omaha. Following their marriage, they lived in the communities of Seattle, Wash., Sioux City, Storm Lake, Moville, Des Moines, Nevada, Ankeny, Iowa and eventually settling in Spencer. Paul worked for Boeing Aircraft, as an engineer, was a manager for the Farm Service Companies of Iowa and worked for Clay County National Bank retiring in 1986. In his retirement, he worked at Clay County Regional Water.
He was a proud member of the Spencer and Marshall Rotary Clubs, where he achieved the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was also a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the American Legion in Spencer. He enjoyed woodworking and playing golf and was a big Spencer Tiger fan. Paul was very proud of his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Paul had resided at Boulder Estates in Marshall the last four years so he could be closer to his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, David and his wife, Kathy of St. Charles, Mo., and Steven and his wife, Susan of Marshall, Minn.; six grandchildren, Sarah Baker (Gary), Kortney Miller (Kyle), Jonathan Strautz (Beth), Christopher Strautz (Andrea), Nicholas Strautz and Laura Strautz; six great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; and one sister, Edna.
Pallbearers will be Sarah Baker, Kortney Miller, and Jonathan, Christopher, Nicholas and Laura Strautz. Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Jespersen, Randy Van Dyke, Harry Rasdel and Bob Rose.

Davidson (deceased) of Hagyard Davidson and MaGee. During her years in Lexington, she was a member of the Lexington Woman's Club, Chapter F of the PEO Sorority, founder of the Jr. MacDowell Club, and was an active volunteer for the Red Cross and Community Chest, the PTA, Girl Scouts of America, the United Community Services and the Lexington-Fayette County Tuberculosis Association. She served in many positions at Maxwell St. Presbyterian Church and later Pisgah Presbyterian Church. She was well known in the music community for accompanying many students and choirs at regional and state music festivals as well as for school programs and concerts. Her love of music eventually lead to the organist/choir director position at Pisgah Presbyterian Church and official accompanist for the Homemakers Chorus and the Woman's Club Chorus. She was an avid bridge and tennis player. In 1954 she was named "Lexington's Outstanding Woman" in a citywide poll conducted by the Beta Sigma Phi sorority, citing "her ability to be a homemaker instead of a housekeeper, her willingness to give of herself not only to her family but to the community, and her charming friendliness to all with whom she comes in contact..." as factors which lead to the honor. Catherine was predeceased by her husband, her son Gary A. Davidson, her brother William Horr, sister Noreen Balch and son-in-law Stephen C. Pierce, esq. She is survived by daughters, Carol D. Mitchell, Susan M. (Vince) Rizzo, Diana D. Pierce, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Sherwood Davidson, as well as two sisters, Mary Day and Helen Palmer; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Mr. Eckland was born in Minneapolis and lived in St. Paul before moving to Shawnee in 1987. He worked for the Donaldson Co. in Eagan, Minn., before he retired. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Shawnee. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Eckland of the home; a son, Gary Eckland, Shawnee; a sister, Harriet Hoar, Minneapolis; and three grandchildren.

HORR, EMILY D., 87, formerly of 5290 43rd Ave. N, St. Petersburg, died Tuesday (Jan. 19, 1988) in Plainfield, N.J., where she moved in 1987. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she came here in 1958 from the Bronx, N.Y., where she was a floor lady with the Knit Town Togs. Locally, she was a member of the Transfiguration Catholic Church, honorary life member of its guild, and a committeewoman for the Democratic Party. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Krulish, Belle Mead, N.J.; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. R. Lee Williams Funeral Home, St. Petersburg.
