Geoff's legacy will live on in his family. He will be lovingly remembered by his son David (Judy) and their children Geoff and Greg, son Jim (Helen) and their children Matthew (Jodie) and Melissa, son Ron (Laura) and their children Jennifer (Adam), Kirk, Robert (Nicole), Bruce (Holly) and Graeme; daughter Marie (Kevin) their children Emilie and Hunter Porter; and one great grandson Asher. He is also survived by his sister Anastasia (Nan) Barclay and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Geoff was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 58 years Alice and his brother Dick Hoar. Geoff was born at home in the Knee Hill Valley district east of Innisfail and started his schooling at the Pleasant Valley School. He made life-long friends while going to grade school. He attended grade 10 at the Alberta College in Edmonton followed by two years of agricultural training at Olds College. He then returned to the farm where he initially farmed alongside with his parents. Eventually his eldest son and grandsons joined the family farming operation. Geoff married Alice Marie Scarlett on July 25, 1949 and together they successfully operated a mixed farm and raised five children. Geoff always had a deep respect for the land and the animals that he cared for. As a 4-H leader of Knee Hill Valley 4-H Beef Club he was a role model to generations of future community leaders. Geoff was always there for and enjoyed family activities. Driving hours to take his children to hockey and basketball games, curling bonspiels, 4-H events, music recitals, amateur theatre shows and any other activities his kids were involved in was never too much to ask. He later enjoyed doing the same things for his grandchildren but this time just to watch and cheer them on. In addition to farming Geoff loved to curl, garden, create with wood and play card games with neighbors and family. He loved to win at cards and wasn't beyond tilting the odds in his favor. Geoff and Alice enjoyed travelling together and felt lucky to have each other to travel the globe with. The Hoar and Porter families would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Rimbey Long Term Care Centre for the exceptional care that they provided. The respect and genuine compassion they showed was exemplary. A celebration of Geoff's life will be held at the Innisfail United Church on February 9, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or the Alberta 4-H Foundation. | Hoar, Geoffrey (I28373)

Waldron Biography This biography appears on pages 1440-1441 in "History of South Dakota" by Doane Robinson, Vol. II (1904) and was scanned, OCRed and edited by Maurice Krueger, mkrueger@iw.net. An etching and the autograph of Geo. P. Waldron face page 1440. GEORGE P. WALDRON.? An enumeration of those sterling pioneers of the territory of Dakota and state of South Dakota who won honor and public distinction for themselves and honored the state to which they belonged, would be signally incomplete were there failure to make prominent reference to George Prentiss Waldron, who identified himself with the history of what is now South Dakota nearly a half century ago, when it was on the very border of civilization, and who became a most conspicuous figure in its early history. He held distinctive precedence as an able lawyer, was distinctively a man of affairs and one who wielded a wide influence. A strong mentality, an invincible courage, a most determined individuality so entered into his makeup as to render him a natural leader of men and director of opinion, and his name merits a place high on the roll of those who have figured as founders and builders of the commonwealth of South Dakota. George P. Waldron, the son of Jeremiah and Mary (Scott) Waldron, was born in the historic old town of Farmington, New Hampshire, on the 21st of September, 1821, and in its schools received his early educational training, while later he completed a course of study in the law department of Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine, w here he was graduated as a member of the class of 1843. Shortly afterward he located in Lowell, Massachusetts, where he engaged in the practice of his profession and where he remained until 1854, having in the meanwhile become interested in the shipping of lumber to California, by way of Cape Horn. He was a personal friend of General Benjamin F. Butler, General Wilson, Charles Sumner and other eminent men of New England. In 1857 he came to the west and numbered himself among the pioneers of Dubuque, Iowa, where he engaged in the practice of his profession and also became secretary and treasurer of the Western Land and Townsite Company, whose headquarters were in that city, while Senator William B. Allison and other prominent men of the state were associated with him in this company, which had important influence for a number of years in forwarding the development of the industries of the state. In 1859 he came with his family to South Dakota and located in a diminutive settlement which had been established on the site of the present beautiful city of Sioux Falls. During the Indian troubles of 1862 the family sought safety by fleeing to Yankton, and there established a home, Mr. Waldron having been appointed provost marshal by President Lincoln and having served as such during the Civil war. He was a member of the first territorial legislature and in the same was the framer of the exemption law, while he was otherwise a prominent figure in public affairs in the territory. After the war he devoted his attention to farming until his removal to Fort Pierre in 1877, where he held the position of United States court commissioner until Stanley county was organized, when he was elected probate judge. He remained a resident of Fort Pierre until his death, which occurred August 26, 1896, while his devoted wife passed away in 1884. Their three children are all yet living, and one still resides in South Dakota. In the year 1849 Judge Waldron was united in marriage to Miss Lydia E. Jones, daughter of Elijah and Alary (Roberts) Jones, of his native town of Farmington, New Hampshire, where she was born and reared, and she preceded him into eternal rest, her death occurring at Fort Pierre on the 8th of May, 1884. Of their children we enter the following brief record: Charles W. is one of the substantial farmers and stock growers of Stanley county and one of its honored pioneers: Lulu P. is the wife of George R. Pearsons, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and Augusta is the wife of G. A. Bickle, of Humboldt, Iowa. | Waldron, George Prentiss (I70424)

467 | [[ http://nhm.ku.edu/herbarium/history.html (With Photo) A brief history of the R.L. McGregor Herbarium The herbarium is as old as the University of Kansas. With the passage of the act that established the university in March, 1864, the state legislature authorized the regents "to expend such portions of the income of the University funds for the purchase of a cabinet of natural history." The natural history collection itself was founded two years later, when the university opened its doors. KU's first professor of natural history and indeed one of the first three faculty members was Francis Huntington Snow (1840? 1908), who brought with him to Kansas a small collection of botanical specimens he made while a student at Williams College. Snow and his own students were soon preparing specimens from Kansas, however, and the cabinet of natural history grew. Snow remained the curator of all the natural history collections until 1891, when he hired his former student, Lewis Lindsay Dyche (1857? 1915), to curate the zoological collections. Snow and Dyche split the collection into two parts, with the zoological specimens curated by Dyche and the entomological and botanical collections curated by Snow. Although Snow demonstrated an early affinity for botany, while at KU his research was primarily in entomology. Snow made comparatively few plant collections throughout his career and today the herbarium houses only 530 specimens taken by him in Kansas. This is because shortly after Snow came to Kansas, the legislature appointed James A. Carruth (1807? 1896) as state botanist, a position in which he served from 1872 to 1892. Snow decided not to duplicate Carruth's work and publications, but many early botanical specimens taken by Snow and other Kansas collectors were sent to Carruth's herbarium. Unfortunately, most of these specimens were lost after Carruth's retirement and today only a few of them remain in Kansas herbaria. None of these are at KU. William Chase Stevens (1861? 1955) took over as director of the herbarium in 1892, after Snow had assumed the chancellorship of the university. Stevens held the position until 1929, when he appointed Worthie H. Horr (1891? 1977) as his successor. Neither Stevens nor Horr was primarily interested in taxonomy, however; Stevens was an anatomist by training and Horr a physiologist. Today the Herbarium houses only about 70 specimens collected by Stevens and about 4,900 specimens collected by Horr. When Horr assumed the directorship in 1929, the herbarium housed some 12,000 specimens. Most of the growth that had occurred during the first 75 years of the hebarium's existence had come from students collections, or collections made by other faculty members, particularly those of Marshall Albert Barber (1868? 1953), or from specimen subscriptions to professional collectors. Horr himself is credited with relatively few collection numbers, but under his direction the herbarium grew considerably, both through his students' work and through an immense specimen-for-specimen exchange program with other herbaria. Starting in 1934, Horr planned to collect 200 duplicate specimens for each of 500 different species. Horr and his students worked diligently on this program until 1948, in the end gathering more than 70,000 specimens for exchange. When the exchanges were sent out to other institutions in 1949, the herbarium was reported to house some 29,000 specimens. Receipt of exchange materials from other institutions continued well into the 1960s, by which time Horr's efforts had netted the herbarium more than 44,000 additional specimens. Shortly after sending out his exchanges in 1949, Horr lost interest in building the herbarium and turned its care over to Ronald Leighton McGregor (b. 1919), who was at the time completing his graduate studies in the botany department. Upon receiving his doctorate in 1954, McGregor was formally appointed director. He was to oversee the most active period of the herbarium's growth. McGregor and his students immediately began work on documenting the regional flora, collecting large numbers of specimens (as well as duplicates for exchange) in Kansas and the southern Great Plains. In 1966, McGregor hired Homer A. ("Steve") Stephens (1906? 1986) as the herbarium's first full-time, professional collector. Stephens worked throughout the Great Plains, from the Canadian border south to Texas, and from the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains, east to western Minnesota and Arkansas. All told, Stephens gathered nearly 84,000 collection numbers, plus many duplicates, before retiring in 1976. McGregor himself is credited with 41,000 numbers and many duplicates. His students gathered many, as well. In particular, Ralph Edward Brooks (b. 1950), first graduate student at KU and later an employee of the Kansas Biological Survey and director of the herbarium, contributed over 20,000 specimens to the collection. Under McGregor's supervision, the herbarium expanded from about 70,000 to more than 300,000 specimens. The collection quickly outgrew the space it had occupied since Snow founded it nearly a hundred years earlier. To accommodate this increase in volume, in 1966 the herbarium moved from Snow Hall to a much larger facility in its present location on KU's West Campus. In 1986, the space was again expanded with an addition approximately doubling the facility in size. During his tenure as director, McGregor contributed significantly to our knowledge of the regional flora. Throughout his career, McGregor pursued many projects devoted to the study of the Kansas- and Great Plains flora. Perhaps the best known of these, he served as coordinator for both the Atlas of the Flora of the Great Plains (1977) and The Flora of the Great Plains (1991). Upon his retirement in 1988, the herbarium was named the Ronald L. McGregor Herbarium in his honor. In recent years, the McGregor Herbarium has benefitted from the directorship of Ralph Brooks, Meredith Ann Lane (b. 1951), and its current curator-in-charge, Craig Carl Freeman (b. 1955). The collection has continued to grow, although at a more moderate rate. During the past five years, the herbarium has grown by about 5,000 specimens per year, of which half were obtained through research activities of the curators and collection manager and half were obtained through exchange programs with some 35 other instititutions. A separate division since Stevens assumed the directorship in 1892, the herbarium came under the aegis of the University of Kansas Natural History Museum and Biodiversity Research Center in 1995. The once single cabinet of natural history is again one museum. Today, however, the cabinet contains some 7 million specimens and is housed in four different buildings: Bridwell Botanical Laboratory, Dyche Hall, Lindley Hall, and Snow Hall. [Information about the early history of the botanical collections at KU were adapted from a longer manuscript by R.L. Interment is in Welda Cemetery. Mr. Tucker died Tuesday, June 17, at his home. Ulysses E. Tucker was born February 1, 1912, at Taft, MO, the oldest of thirteen children born to Edward Ethel and Anne (Lynn) Tucker. After graduating from high school in Burlington, CO, in 1931, Ulis was united in marriage to Alice Louise Curry on August 25, 1932, at Kansas City, KS. This union was blessed with two children. Ulis owned several businesses throughout his life, including a retail and auction business. He was also a sewer contractor, a real estate broker, and was a truck farmer, who was also engaged in other types of farming. He worked at the Anderson County Sale Barn for twenty years weighing cattle, where he enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbors every week. He loved fishing, hunting, music, and singing, and his grandchildren. Ulis was compassionate, always loved to give and would help anyone in need. He never failed to tell his family how proud he was of them and how lucky he was to live long enough to know his great-grandchildren. In 1761, he married Elizabeth Taub. The Winebiddles then removed to America and arrived at Fort Pitt in 1771. At the outbreak of the Revolutionary War, John Conrad Winebiddle purchased cattle to feed and clothe the Continental troops and opened a tannery in the Lawrenceville area (near the current intersection of Butler Street and Penn Avenue.) Partly through the inheritance of his wife from her father, Casper Taub, John Conrad Winebiddle amassed large tracts of land in what would later be the 19th and 20th wards of Pittsburgh, including the town of East Liberty. They held, ultimately, 648 acres of land north of Forbes Road, forming a plantation known as "Rumbiddle." The Winebiddles had four children: Barbara Anna Winebiddle Negley (1778-1867), Philip Winebiddle (1780-1871), Catharine AKitty@ Winebiddle Roup (1790-1877), and Conrad Winebiddle (d. 1859). ~ http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=pennypit&id=I02908 Philip Winebiddle (1780-1871) East Liberty farmer and landholder, Philip Winebiddle, the oldest son of John Conrad and Elizabeth Winebiddle, was born on May 14 or 15, 1780. In addition to holding lands in Erie, Pennsylvania, Winebiddle owned large parcels of land along the Greensburg Pike in the area which later comprised the 16th-20th wards of the city of Pittsburgh. In 1805, Philip Winebiddle was responsible for collecting county taxes in Pitt township. He is said to have fought in the War of 1812 and, during the Civil War, proposed selling land to the United States Army for an arsenal in either Pittsburgh or Erie. Philip Winebiddle died on December 17, 1871. On September 3, 1807, Philip Winebiddle married Susanna Roup (1786-1873), a daughter of Jonas and Ablonia [Abigail] Horr Roup. The Winebiddles had seven children: Lafayette Winebiddle (1808-1863), Elizabeth Winebiddle Phillips (1810-1896), Sarah B. Winebiddle McWilliams (1811-1875), Mary Ann Winebiddle Menold (b. 1814), Rebecca Roup Winebiddle Phillips (1819-1896), William Cunningham Winebiddle (1821-1915), and Agnes Olive Newton Winebiddle Brown (b. 1826). Lafayette Winebiddle (1808-1863) Philip and Susanna Roup Winebiddle's eldest son, Lafayette Winebiddle, was born on September 5, 1808. Although he assisted his brother, William Cunningham Winebiddle, in a coal hauling business in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh, Lafayette Winebiddle was principally a farmer on the family's lands along the Greensburg and Pittsburgh Turnpike. During the 1830s, he was a captain in the Allegheny County Light Dragoons. Lafayette Winebiddle also served on the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Coal Company and was responsible for the collection of taxes in Peebles township in the early 1840s. He died on August 7, 1863. William Cunningham Winebiddle (1821-1915) The second son of Philip and Susanna Winebiddle, William Cunningham Winebiddle, was born on March 9, 1821. Along with his cousin, James Scott Negley (1826-1901), he joined the Duquesne Greys on December 12, 1846, to fight in the war with Mexico; he was present at the fall of Mexico City in September 1847. He was a member of the East Liberty Presbyterian Church and lived most of his life in a house built by his parents on Penn Avenue, farming on the family's estates. At the time of his death in 1915, William Cunningham Winebiddle was said to be the last living survivor of the Mexican-American War in Pittsburgh. Subseries: 1: Papers of Philip Winebiddle (1769-1902) Scope Note: Philip Winebiddle's personal financial papers contain accounts, bills, and receipts from his farming and coal mining businesses and taxes, including correspondence concerning the sale of hay to the U.S. Army during the Civil War. The series also includes a small amount of legal material, generally summonses and court decisions concerning property disputes. Most of these disputes were resolved in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. The bulk of Philip Winebiddle's papers consists of property records, 1769-1873, including abstracts of title, agreements, deeds, leases, surveys, letters, and related documents for parcels of land, principally in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh and Erie, Pennsylvania. Of particular note are drafts and copies of an 1861 letter to President Abraham Lincoln, offering, on Winebiddle's behalf, land for an arsenal in either Erie or Pittsburgh. There is also a small amount of legal material concering the division of Philip Winebiddle's estate and property holdings in the city's 19th ward. The subseries includes a few personal and business letters, both sent and received, of Philip Winebiddle, including an 1848 letter from his nephew, James Scott Negley, describing his efforts to release himself and William Cunningham Winebiddle from Army service in the Mexican War. Subseries: 2: Papers of Lafayette Winebiddle 1823-1874 Scope Note: The personal papers of Lafayette Winebiddle include a number of account books and daybooks, 1840-1862; most of these records document his coal hauling business, though one additional volume contains a record of his tax collection activities in Peebles Township in 1840-1841. 485 | [[ http://www.archive.org/stream/commemorativebio00jhbeer/commemorativebio00jhbeer_djvu.txt Commemorative Biographical Record of the Counties of Huron and Lorain, Ohio |[ H. LANG. The Lang family, of k. I which this gentleman is a worthy \\Ji representative, and which was at one time quite numerous in Huntington, Lorain county, can trace their genealogy back to Plvmouth Rock. The earliest known member of the fam- ily was one Robert Lang, a seafaring man who came from Scotland as early as 1630. He built a house at Portsmouth, N. H., some time between 1635 and 1650, which is still standing in a very good condition. It was built or New Hampshire Pasture Oak. The walls are bricked up between the studs with brick broucrht from Eng- land, and the nails were hand made. This house was occupied by English soldiers during the King Philip war; was also oc- cupied by Governor Wentworth, and shel- tered General Washington when he visited New England. This is one of the oldest houses in the New England States, and relics of it are tiow in the possession of some of the younger members of this old family. The following line brings this family down to the present numerous gen- eration: First from Robert was John, then a sec- ond John, who was a Revolutionary soldier. Then Bickford, and a second Bickford, who was a captain of militia in the war of 1812. He was born in Rye, N. H., married Abi- gail Locke, and settled in Epsom, N. H., where he reared a numerous family. His eldest son William was the first to leave the parent nest, and go to what was then the '?W Far West." His brother Reuel soon followed, and both settled in Huntington, Lorain county, about the year 1821, being among the first settlers of that township. David, another son of Bickford, followed about 1835, and the father came in 1838, all of them settling in Huntington. An- O IT) other son, John, settled in Ashland, Ohio, where he was for a number of years a prosperous merchant and business man, and where he died in 1847. Benjamin, another son, graduated at Kenyon College, Gambler, Ohio, and was for some time a professor of that college; he died in Kansas in 1885. David spent the most of his life, after coming to Ohio, in Hunt- ington, a prosperous farmer, and died at the home of his son John in Rochester in 1884. Josiah Crosby, the youngest son of this family, enlisted in the war of the Rebellion, but was taken sick and died be- fore he had seen any active service, his death occurring in 1861. Of the two boys who first came to Ohio, Reuel was a cabinet maker, and worked at the trade of carpenter and joiner for many years; and many of the first frame structures of Lorain county show his handiwork. He was fen- many years a local preacher among the Methodists. The last years of his life he spent in Wellington, surrounded by many of his children, where he peacefully passed away in March, 1891, in the eighty- ninth year of his age. William, the eld- est son, is still living with his son John in Wasioja, Minn., in his ninety-sixth year. Bickford, Jr., was the only one of this numerous family who did not "go west." He remained in his native State, and is still living at Franklin, N. PI. There were four girls in this family: Maria, who married Dr. Babli, and died at Man- chester, N. H.; Lorenda, married to Kim- ball Prescott, and died at Marinette, AVis.; Sarah, who married Morrill Chesley, and still lives in New Hampshire, and Abigail, who married Milton Barker, and died at Oberlin, Ohio. Beyond this brief review, this history will have only to do with the later generation, and with those who have been more intimately connected with the history of Lorain county. Of the descendants of this family, only the children of Reuel settled in this county. Josiah Bickford, the eldest, married Lorena Chapman, and for a number of years lived in Huntington, where he fol- lowed the trade of carpenter; for more than twenty years he was engaged in the tin, stove and hardware trade in Welling- ton. He served a term as mayor of that village, and by his enterprise and counsel added much to its prosperity; for the last few years his home has been in Cleveland; he had four children ? -three eons and one daughter, viz.: Watson W. and Charles, both in business in Cleveland; Eva A., now the wife of George M. Cad- well, a business man in Cleveland ; the tirst-born son was killed when a cliild by the kick of a horse. The next son is Jesse H., the subject proper of this sketch, of whom further mention will presently be made. Cyrus Welcome, the third son, lived at home in Huntington till the age of twenty, when he visited his relatives in New Hampshire, where he died in his twentieth year. Louisa Maria, the eldest daughter, married Peter S. Wright, lived a short time in Huntington, a number of years in Oberlin, moved to Vermontville, Mich., where he accumulated some prop- erty, and about ten years ago returned to Wellington, where he still resides. Mr. Wright was famed as being one of the most ingenious mechanics in the country, He enlisted in the army and served with honor, and is now retired in broken health, on a small pension. They had three chil- dren, two of whom died in infancy, and the third, Grace, is now the wife of Utley AVedcre, and resides in Cleveland. Esther Abigail, the next daughter, married Charles W. Horr, a prosperous business man of Wellington; they had a family of four boys, the eldest of which is a lawyer in Cleveland, ai;d the rest still live in Well- ington. Charles, the fourth son, died at Huntington in the twentieth year of his age. Olive Amy, the youngest daughter, after graduating from Oberlin College, married Dr. Meriden B. Lukens, who practiced medicine for many years in Illi- nois, Wisconsin, and Cleveland, Ohio, and finally drifted to Dalton, Ga., where they now reside. George Locke, the next son in line, grew to sixteen years of age in Huntington; then went to Wisconsin and took a position in the store of his brother Jesse, and when the war broke out he en- listed in Company G, Twelfth Wisconsin Volunteers, in which he served gallantly and faithfully; was severely wounded at the siege of Atlanta, Ga., a minie ball being permanently left in his right lung; after he returned from the war he studied telegraphy, and has been engaged in that occupation ever since; he is now engaged in important work of this kind in the East, with a residence in Boston; he married Lizzie Viles, at Oberlin, and they have one daughter, now married and residing in Washington, D. C. Merrill Warner, the youngest of this family, also grew to man- hood in Huntington, married and settled in Wellington, where he now resides, an honored citizen. He has been many years a member of the village council, and has had much to do with the aflfairs of that village; he has one son. Burton Lang, who is married and lives in Cleveland. Five generations of Langs have lived and flourished in Lorain county ? Watson, the son of Josiah, having two children, and Bur- ton, the son of Merrill, having one. Bickford, of tlie first generation, died in Hunt- ington at the age of about ninety years, and Reuei, of tiie next in line, died in Wellington as before stated. Of David's family, Albert, the eldest, died in Hunt- ington; John, the second son, lives in Rochester; Lydia Ann, the oldest daugh- ter, is now the wife of Horatio Norton, and lives in Huntington; Henry, a younger son, entered the army, and was killed in action. The names mentioned above com- prise all or nearly all of this numerous family who have been identified with Lorain county. While this family has nut produced any great men, there never has been any stain on its moral character, none of them ever having been in either Con- gress or Penitentiary. Jesse Hart Lang, whose name opens this sketch, was born in Huntington townsiiip, Loraiti Co., Ohio, December 21, 1827, a sun of Reuel and Amy (Hart) Lang, na- tives respectively of New Hampshire and Vermont. He was named after his ma- ternal grandfather. Mr. Lang grew to manhood in his native town, attended school in Oberlin a number of years, and engaged in teaching and study from 1844 to 1848. On January 1, of the latter year, lie married Miss Mary E. Fitch, of Shef- field township, Lorain county, a daughter of Samuel B. and Dolly (Smith) Fitch, na- tives of Massachusetts and early settlers of Shefiield township, Lorain county. The first two years of our subject's married life were spent on a farm in Huntington town- ship, after which he removed to Olmsted Falls, Cuyahoga Co., Ohio, where he was engaged in managing a woolen factory for five years. In 1856, with his young wife and one daughter, he went to Grand Kap- ids, Wis., where he was in the employ of the Government, and at the same time studied law. While there he was a candi- date for the Legislature, but was defeated, the District being largely Democratic. For ten years he was there engaged in the businesses of land surveyor, lawyer and merchant. Returning to Oberlin in 1870, he has here since resided, engaged in the profession of attorney and general busi- ness agency. He is a Republican, and cast his first vote for the Free-soil party. Socially he is a F. & A. M., and he and his wife are members of the Congrega- tional Church. They had si.x; children, all of whom died young, ttie youngest, Carrie, at the age of thirteen years. Mr. Lang published a work entitled ''Childrens' Pictorial Bible," containing twenty thou- sand illustrations (seven hundred of them being electro-plates) and a topical analysis. He spent twenty years on the work. | Lang, Reuel (I6385)

She was the mother of nine children, all of whom, as also her husband, survived her. Mr. Thomas Howard passed his early years in Pomfret, Conn., assisting his father in his tanning and farming busi- ness. On his marriage, if not before, he settled in Monson, Mass. How long he continued to reside there, and in the other places afterwards named, is only approximately known by his church relations. On Dec. 14, 1777, he and his wife were received into the Congregational Church in Somers, Conn., by letters from the church in Monson. AVhen they united with this latter church is not known. The early records of the church in Monson are lost. On Oct. 5, 1780, they took letters from the church in Somers to the church in Lebanon, N. H., where their names are found enrolled. They subsequently moved to Sharon, Yt., where thej' both died as stated alcove. Of his, pursuits in life, and of his standing and influence as a citizen, little is now known. That he was an upright Christian man is readily inferred from the foregoing jnirticulars. | Hoar, Martha (I38615)
