Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2004, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Chapel, Bettendorf, Iowa. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 1801 Mississippi Blvd., Bettendorf for their Our House Pre-School Program. She was born Dec. 22, 1917, in Leavenworth, Wash., the daughter of W. Foster and Agnes Viola (Wellemeyer) Bickel. On Sep. 22, 1942, she was united in marriage to Stanley F. Clinton in San Francisco, Calif. Verna received her degree in home economics from Iowa Wesleyan University in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa and later taught in Pleasant Lawn, Iowa and Westchester, Iowa. Her memberships included Asbury United Methodist Church and the Zeta Tau Alpha National Sorority. For many years, she was a devoted member of the United Methodist Women. Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Stanley; her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon E. and Kevin A. Jones of Davenport; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey B. and Deborah Clinton of Davenport; her grandchildren, Jonathan J. Clinton, Andrew M. Clinton and Elizabeth M. Jones; and a niece.
