      Horr, Frank D
Frank Horr Dead From Forest Fire; Frank D. Horr, one of the best known of the old settlers in this section, died Saturday afternoon at Modesto from burns received while fighting a forest fire the day before in the Coast Range Mountains, near Mt. Oso. In company with others Horr was attempting to keep the fire from reaching his cabin, when a sudden change of the wind cut him off from all means of escape. In trying to break through the flames he was severely burned about the head, chest and arms. He was rescued by his brother, Al Horr, and Frank Swerer, who drove with him in a wagon to Modesto for treatment at the County Hospital. They were on the road from 12 o'clock Friday night until 9 o'clock Saturday morning. The lack of immediate relief and the pain during the long ride proved too much for his recovery and he passed away at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Frank D. Horr was a native of this county, having been born 62 years ago on the Tuolumne river near Waterford, on the ranch of his father the late B. D. Horr, a pioneer settler of this county. He was unmarried and lived on a homestead at Oak Flat. He is survived by five brothers, residing at the following places in this state: B. M. Horr, Roseville; J. P. and A. P. Horr, Patterson; H.B. Horr, Westport, and W. B. Horr, San Jose. The funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the chapel of Bowker, Wood and Shannon, Modesto, being conducted by Rev. W. L. H. Denton of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Interment was the family plot in the Citizens' Cemetery, Modesto.
