History of the Tone Family, page 85
"Eli Hubbard was a private in Capt. Wolcott's Company of Berkshire County, Mass., sworn in July 16, 1776 and discharged Aug. 5, 1776, which Company marched into the Highlands of New York state. It is reported that many of the settlers of Oneida County, along about 1790, were former soldiers who saw what a fine country it was on their military expeditions, and we find Eli Hubbard among those settlers in Oneida County about 1795, with his two sons, Eli Jr. and Ithiel."
