Deceased Name: William Perry Cross
CROSS William Perry Cross, 91, of Delaware, died this morning (August 10, 1999) at the home in which he was born December 27, 1907 to John Williams Cross and Bertha (Stephen) Cross. He was a retired hydraulic engineer for the U.S. Department of the interior's U.S. Geological Survey, Water Resource Division. He also worked 5 years at the State of Ohio Department of Transportation, Division 6. Mr. Cross served 30 years in the National Guard. He was a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel. He served during WW II in the China-Burma-India theater. During the Korean War, he served as an Inspector General for the 37th Division. He co-authored the first textbook on hydrology - Elements of Applied Hydrology. He also published Water Resource Bulletins for the U.S. Geology Survey for more than 20 years. Surviving are 2 daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy and Edward Hoar and Patricia Turnbull, all of Delaware; a son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Mary Cross of Delaware; a caregiver, Tracey Ryan of Delaware; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson. His wife, Catherine (Boring) Cross died July 8, 1991. He was also preceded in death by a sister Lois Cross and brother Frank Cross. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at BENNETT BROWN RODMAN FUNERAL HOME, Delaware, where a funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Warren Campbell-Gaston officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery with military honors provided by Delaware County Veterans Association. Memorial contributions may be made to the Asbury UMC Memorial Fund, 55 W. Lincoln Ave., Delaware, Oh. 43015; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
