Mr. Hoar was born March 2, 1930, in Chicago and was raised in South Bend, Ind. He graduated from Notre Dame University and was a librarian for Cleveland State University in Ohio before moving to Portland in 1981. In 1966, he married Jean Bolinger. Survivors include his wife; sons, Gerald III and John; daughters, Kathryn Popovich, Elizabeth Hoar and Anne Greenhoe; sister, Joan Ketterer; brother, Roger; and three grandchildren. Remembrances to St. Vincent dePaul Society. Arrangements by Holman's
