      Deceased Name: Richard Whalen
      Richard Whalen, 68; Of Broad Brook
      Richard David "Dave" Whalen of Broad Brook died Thursday in a local hospital. He was 68.
      He was born in New York City then moved to East Hartford, where he grew up. During the mid-1950s, he joined the Marine Reserves, and then the Air Force, working at the Pentagon. After returning to East Hartford, he lived in the Enfield, Vernon and Broad Brook area for the past 45 years. He was a 4th-degree Knight of Columbus with Council 4531 in Broad Brook, and had held many offices with them, including Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator and Financial Secretary. He was also a past president of the East Windsor Lions Club.
      He is survived by his wife, Bea Whalen; daughters Jamie Taylor and Robin Hoar of Maine; and son James Whalen. He is also survived by his son Timothy Whalen of Florida; and daughters Michelle Whalen of Massachusetts, and Stormy Harville and Renee Whalen, both of Florida; his sister Jacqueline Taylor and her husband, Joseph, of East Windsor; and seven grandchildren. His daughter Cheryle Whalen died previously.
      A calling hour will be held today at 8:30 a.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 69 South Road. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine's Church, Broad Brook. Burial will follow in St. Catherine's Cemetery.
