Deceased Name: Leon Summers
Leon Summers, 89, of Fairmount Homes, formerly of Gap, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Jan. 12th, at Ephrata Community Hospital. He was born Oct. 9, 1919, son of the late Samuel and Rachel Summers. He married Ida Petersheim Dec. 18, 1941 who died in Oct. 1993. He later married Ida Arment Stoltzfus Nov. 21, 1998. They recently celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary.
He was a well known taxi driver for the Amish. He was the contact person for the Mennonite Disaster Service, and he was on the cemetery committee at Millwood Mennonite Church, mowing the cemetery for many years.
In earlier years, he and his first wife had a bake shop; they attended various markets donating leftover baked goods to Christ Home and House of His Creation. Leon was a farmer and carpenter. The first MCC Relief sale started on his farm at Gap.
He was a loving husband to his wife and devoted father to his children; stepchildren; and their families. At church, even the step great-grandchildren would come to him for candy. He had a very positive outlook on life and was a joy to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by: his wife, Ida; two sons, Leon Jr., of Gap, Nevin married to Cris Summers, Leola; two daughters, Cathy wife of Mark Miller, Sykesville, MD, and Nancy companion of Mike Ponzillo, Lancaster; two stepsons, Steve husband of Mary Jane Stoltzfus, Galen husband of Cathy (Hoar) Stoltzfus, both of Gap; three stepdaughters, Anna Mary Boettger, Gordonville, Jean Hoover, New Holland, Rosella wife of Gideon Coblentz, Blue Ball; brothers, Allen of Lititz, and Elam of Danville; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, foster grandchildren, and foster great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: children, Donald, Janet, Rachel, Verlin; a brother, Edgar; a foster son, Ronald Kerchner Ditzler. Evelyn Ditzler of Baltimore, widow of Ronald, also survives.
Funeral services: Friday, Jan. 16th, at 10 a.m. from Hinkletown Mennonite Church, 2031 Division Hwy. (Rt. 322), Ephrata. Viewings: Thursday 4-8 p.m. and Friday 9-10 a.m., all at the church. Interment: Millwood Mennonite Cemetery at the family's convenience. Memorial contributions may be made to: Fairmount Homes Caring Fund, 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata, PA 17522.
