  [[ Her brother's obituary: Sun, The (Baltimore, MD) - May 1, 1995 Deceased Name: Leroy J. Cropper Jr. a tow truck company owner who spent 32 years as a volunteer firefighter, died Friday at Peninsula Regional Medical Center after suffering a heart attack while battling a hotel fire April 24 in Ocean City. He was 52. Mr. Cropper, who helped carry equipment to the fifth floor of the Plim Plaza Hotel at Second Street and the Boardwalk, where an air-conditioner had caught fire, was hospitalized Tuesday, according to Ocean City fire officials. On Thursday, he was transferred from Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury for further testing and heart surgery. Mr. Cropper of Ocean City experienced another heart attack and died about 4:30 p.m. Friday, fire officials said. "After the fire Monday, he just told an assistant fire chief that he didn't feel well and would go home," said Chief Engineer H. Stephen Price. "He didn't think it was a real big deal. I've known him for 25 years, and that's just like him not to draw any attention to himself. He just didn't want to bother anybody. "He was just somebody you just liked to call 'friend.' " Mr. Cropper -- described as easygoing, personable and well-liked -- was born in Salisbury and raised in Ocean City. He was a graduate of Stephen Decatur High School and owned Atlantic Towing in Ocean City for 22 years. Mr. Cropper was an avid snowmobiler, fisherman and hunter, relatives and friends said. He also was a Gold Badge member of the volunteer fire company. A Fallen Firefighters Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the First Presbyterian Church, 13th Street and Philadelphia Avenue in Ocean City. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, the former Martha Hornicek; two sons, John and Scott Cropper of Ocean City; his mother, Miriam Cropper of Ocean City; a brother, Richard Cropper of Salisbury; and three sisters, Sarah Hoar, Miriam Bishop and Susan Birch, all of Ocean City.
