      Deceased Name: VANNEST
      VANNEST, John L. - Of Davison, age 91, died Sunday, December 5, 1999 at Genesys Hospice Care Center-Goodrich. Funeral Services will be held 2PM Thursday, December 9, 1999 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd. Rev. Harold K. Polk, Jr. officiating. Cremation will take place after the service at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Mr. Vannest will lie in state at the funeral home where the family will receive visitors from 2-4 and 6-9PM Wednesday and 1PM Thursday until the time of the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to Calvary Presbyterian Church or a church of your choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. John was born in Gladwin, MI on October 16, 1908 the son of Byron G. Vannest and Susanna E. Arrand. He moved to Flint in 1926 and had lived in Davison most of his life. John married Gertrude M. Thurlow in 1929 and Jean L. Sawyer (Eastman) in 1990. John worked in the Tool and Die Department and Machine Repair at Chevrolet for 43 years, retiring in 1968. Survivors: wife, Jean L. (Penny) Vannest; wife of 60 years Gertrude M. Hoard and their children, James and wife Marvelle Vannest, Clara Jean and husband James Haley, Marjorie and husband Calvin Churchill, Eleanor and husband Jerry Crothers, Dorothy and husband Sam Yonce, Rilla and husband Dr. William Crothers, Reverend John and wife Janet Vannest, Rodney and wife Jean Vannest; 26 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Klein; many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by sisters, Rilla Cady, Louella Card and Nellie Steinkraus; brother, Wellington Vannest and 2 grandchildren, Melvin L. Vannest and Jonathan Vannest.
