Obituary:
Leonard Goering
(July 30, 1920 - October 23, 2005)
SOUTH HUTCHINSON - Leonard "Joe" Goering, 85, died Oct. 23, 2005, in his home, South Hutchinson.
He was born July 30, 1920, in Pretty Prairie, the son of John P. and Lydia Graber Goering. A lifetime Reno County resident, living in Pretty Prairie and South Hutchinson, he was a farmer and woodworker. He was a cabinetmaker for Architectural Millwork Inc. for 27 years and then worked for Technique Manufacturing.
He belonged to First Mennonite Church, Pretty Prairie, and attended South Hutchinson United Methodist Church.
On Nov. 11, 1953, he married Voncille Jean Johnson in Pretty Prairie. She died Nov. 24, 1990. On Oct. 12, 1996, he married Edna R. Slate Goering in Pretty Prairie. She died May 26, 1999.
Survivors include: two sons, Thomas Goering and wife, Terrie, Pretty Prairie, Russell Goering and wife, Kim, Abilene; a daughter, Voncille Dirks and husband, Norman, Hillsboro; step family; six grandchildren, Stacey Young and husband, David, Wichita, Matthew and Scott Goering, Pretty Prairie, and Rachel, Kenton and Kevin Goering, Abilene.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Fred, Art and Richard Goering; Helen Graber and infant, Bertha Goering.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church. Graveside service will follow at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday in First Mennonite Church Cemetery, Pretty Prairie, with Pastors Richard E. Zimmerman and Lester Zook presiding. Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Mortuary, Hutchinson. Visitation, with the family present, will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. Burial will be in First Mennonite Church Cemetery, Pretty Prairie.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to Union Rescue Mission, Wichita, South Hutchinson United Methodist Church or the donor's choice, all in care of the mortuary.
