      George Hoar
      HIAWATHA --- George S. Hoar, 69, Hiawatha, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at a Topeka hospice.
      Mr. Hoar worked for a few years in Topeka for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Topeka State Hospital. He later was an assistant funeral director in Hiawatha for Meek Mortuary and Ambulance Service, and then he was supervisor of the laundry department at Hiawatha Community Hospital. He retired from the Brown County Sheriff's Department in Hiawatha where he had been a dispatcher and jailer. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
      He was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Hiawatha, the son of Stan and Leila Hauber Hoar. He graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1950 and worked for a short time for the Lambert and Dickerson Seed Co. before he joined the Navy.
      Mr. Hoar was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge No. 1741, both in Hiawatha. He was a former member of Homer-White Post No. 66 of the American Legion and Post No. 5210 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also had played bass in a country-western band for many years.
      He married Betty Martinosky Lovelady on June 1, 1961, in Hiawatha. She survives.
      Other survivors include five sons, Steve Lovelady, Liberal, Richard Lovelady, Horton, Tom Lovelady, Silver Lake, Greg Lovelady, Springdale, Ark., and Mark Lovelady, Bella Vista, Ark.; a daughter, Theresa Canham, Ozawkie; a sister, Billie Hubbard, Augusta; and 14 grandchildren.
      Mass of Christian Burial will be at celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Hiawatha. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha. Mr. Hoar will lie in state after noon today at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha where a parish rosary recited at 7:45 p.m. will be followed by visitation.
      Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice or St. Ann's Catholic Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
