    Deceased Name: ANDREW NELSON JR., 63
    UPTON - Andrew S. Nelson Jr., 63, of 16 Fiske Ave. died yesterday in The Medical Center of Central Massachusetts - Memorial, Worcester, after a short illness.
    He leaves his wife, Helen E. (Davis) Nelson; two sons, Kevin D. Nelson of Harwinton, Conn., and Corey L. Nelson of West Upton; a daughter, Tracy A. Maynard of Milford; and three grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson observed their 39th wedding anniversary recently. He was born in East Machias, Maine, son of Andrew S. and Thursa (Hoar) Nelson, and lived here 60 years.
    He graduated from the former Upton High School.
    He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
    Mr. Nelson was a purchasing agent at Baystate Abrasives in Westboro, where he worked for 39 years. He retired in 1988.
    Mr. Nelson was a former assistant scoutmaster and troop committee member of Troop 132, Boy Scouts of America.
    Private graveside services will be held tomorrow in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. John McKenna will officiate. There are no calling hours. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main St., is directing arrangements.

    HOAR TRUMAN E. Truman E. Hoar of Essex passed away peacefully on December 14 2009 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He is survived by his wife Betty L. (Pollard) Hoar of Essex and his daughter Judith Hoar of Old Saybrook. He was predeceased by his parents Horace T. & Kathleen M. (Holmes) Hoar a son John Frederick Hoar and his sister Jean McCulloch. He was born in East Machias ME and graduated from Chapman Tech. in New London. He served in the US Army in WWII and the Korean conflict and was the battalion commander of the Ct National Guard in Westbrook. Truman was a plumbing heating and electrical contractor with HT Hoar & Sons. He held a master license in all three trades. When his father retired he incorporated the business to Saybrook Contractors where he mentored his longtime companion and extended family member Rob Clark. Truman had a passion for collecting antique tools guns and stray cats. His extensive tool collection was eventually sold and some pieces ended up at the Smithsonian Institute. Funeral services and interment are private. Donations may be made in his memory to the Visiting Nurses of the Lower Valley Box 366 Centerbrook Ct. 06409 Arrangements by Robinson Wright & Weymer Funeral Home Centerbrook Ct.

    Old Lyme ? Jean Adair McCulloch, 69, of Rowland Road, died at home Friday.
    She was born on Jan. 27, 1931 in Lincoln, N.H., the daughter of Kathleen Hoar of Old Saybrook and the late Horace Hoar.
    She lived in California for 30 years, teaching junior high school mathematics. She also worked as a secretary at Stanford University and did volunteer work.
    Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, David, whom she married in 1956; four children, Matthew McCulloch of Palo Alto, Calif., Katherine De Los Santos of Old Lyme, Paul McCulloch of Washington, D.C. and Robb McCulloch of Sebastabol, Calif.; a brother, Truman Hoar of Essex; and five grandchildren.

    Maurice R. Hoar, 74, of Sunset Rd, Old Saybrook, died Monday (November 18, 2002) at Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Pauline (Still) Hoar, born on October 28, 1928 in Lincoln, NH son of the late Bernard and Vivian Washburn Hoar. He lived in Old Saybrook for the past 60 years, graduated at Old Saybrook High School Class of 1947. He owned and operated Saybrook Electric Motor Shop in Old Saybrook for the past 36 years. He was an Army veteran serving in the Korean War also served with the Connecticut National Guard 246th Engineer Company in Westbrook. He is survived by two sons, Stephen Mercer of East Lyme, Charles Mercer of Old Saybrook; two daughters, Tammy Ponterella of Old Saybrook and Paula Stuart of Old Saybrook; a sister, Dawn Thomas of Old Saybrook and also 10 grandchilren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., graveside at Riverside Cemetery in Old Saybrook, friends may call at the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd, Old Saybrook, Wednesday evening, 6-8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, Ct 06405.

    WATERBURY ? Sandra Lylia (Hoar) Claflin, 64, of Pinehurst Avenue, died Friday, Dec. 10, at Waterbury Hospital.
    Mrs. Claflin was born Nov. 7, 1940, in East Machias, Maine, daughter of the late Lewis and Sara (Nelson) Hoar. She lived in Maine, until moving to Waterbury 30 years ago.
    She leaves three daughters, Kerin Arsenault of Wolcott, Gina Rinaldi of Harlan, Iowa, and Cassandra Mansolf of Waterbury; a brother, Harold Jones of Virginia; a sister, Brenda Mikelskas of Wolcott, and eight grandchildren.
