George, son of John B. Hoar, was born at Bronkton, county Kent, England. May 20, 1825, died December 21, 1900, at Ellenville, New York. He came to this country with his parents and brothers and sisters when he was about nine years of age, on the sailing vessel "Montreal." He attended the district schools of Ellenville, and early in life he went to Alligerville, New York, and worked alongside of his brother-in-law in his shipyard. Later, in company with one of his brothers, he went to Hawley, Pennsylvania, where both of them engaged in boat building and repairing. This continued for some time, when finally the two brothers separated and George Hoar came to Ellenville. In that town he purchased a boatyard and drydock where he built boats for the Albany and Honesdale line, the Merchants' and Tanners' line, and the D. & H. Canal Company. In course of time his concern attained considerable proportions ; he executed a great deal of work in the repairing line, and his general business in both directions along the Hudson was very great. When the D. and H. canal was abandoned he built a plant for the manufacture of sand from ground granite, to be employed in the manufacture of glass, and in this business he continued till his death. Throughout his busy life he engaged in many and various ventures, all of which showed his unusual practical ability and his business skill. His ship and boatyard was long an interesting object from the river, and the amount of work executed in it gave it always an appearance of a great hive of industry. Mr. Hoar was well able to adapt himself to changing business conditions, and when it became necessary for him to engage in a new line of industry his varied experience in vari- ous capacities from youth to age served him in good stead. He was the organizer, leader and a member of the first Ellenville brass band. He was a member of the Reformed church and in politics was a Republican. In the course of his adult life he held various public positions of prominence, was trustee of the village, and was a member of the board of education. He was always greatly interested in the public afifairs and progress of Ellenville, and was regarded as one of its pioneers during the period of its more im- portant development. From the time of his settlement in the neighborhood he was a highly respected member of the community, and had a large circle of acquaintances. He married Harriet Mason. FRANCIS HOAR, Waldwick, New Jersey. The subject of this sketch was born in Ulster County. New York, on January 23, 1853, being the son of F. Hoar, a farmer, who emigrated from England and set- tled in Ulster County. The young man left school at the age of 17 and engaged in farming for two years, beginning his railroad career in April, 1872, as a fire- man on the Erie. He fired from 1872 to 1875 for Dud- ley Warner, and from 1875 to 1877 for B. Hogan; from 1877 to 1880 for Engineer Tucker, being promoted to engineer then, and is now running in the suburban service between Waldwick and Jersey City. Mr. Hoar was married in 1878 to Miss Mary Stanton of Port Jervis, and they have five children. Norma, Francis, Jr., Frederick, Chauncey and Herbert. Mr. Hoar owns a pleasant home in Waldwick and is one of the city's most estimable citizens.

William A., son of George and Harriet (Mason) Hoar, was bom at Alligerville, New York, June 3, 1853. He was educated in the public schools of Ellenville, Ulster county, and at the Fort Edward Institute, at Fort Edward, New York, where he took a business course. He soon became connected with the Ellenville Glass Works, and later was made cashier of the First National Bank of Ellenville. In the year 1881 he resigned this position, and a partnership was formed under the firm name of Moore & Hoar, manufacturers of clothing, and jobbers in dry goods, hosiery, notions, and lines kept in country stores. On Mr. Moore's death his son succeeded him and the business is still conducted by Mr. Hoar and Mr. Moore's son, under the firm style and title of Moore & Hoar. The firm does a very extensive business in Ellenville, and the surrounding country, and uses the most approved modern business methods in so far as the village and country gives scope for them. Mr. Hoar is a Republican in politics, though he has never held any public position, his business requiring the greater part of his time and attention. He is a trustee of the Ellenville Savings Bank, and his business interests have other ramifications. He married Mira, daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Wilbur) Terwilliger, of Ellenville, New York.

Ellenville Man Dies After Crash Near Port Jervis
Royal C. Hoar, 53, of 6 Mill Street, Ellenville, died at St. Francis Hospital, Port Jervis, this morning as the, result of injuries sustained in a highway
accident Tuesday on Route 300 near Huguenot.
A native of Ellenville, he was born July 1, 1908, a son of the late James and Ida Belle Bradford Hoar. He was married to the former Mae MacEntee at Ellenville on July 4, 1934 Mr. Hoar was employed as a driver for Marvin Millwork, Inc., Ellenville. He was a member of Ellenville Reformed Church and a life member of the Kimball Hose Company No. 1 of Ellenville.,
Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Carl and Todd Hoar, both at home; three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Iris) Slater of Kerhonkson; Mrs. Joseph (Ruth
Ann) Newman of Napanooh, and Mrs. Wilton (Margaret) Sheley
of Ellenville; also seven grandchildren; two brothers, Judson of Kingston and Harrison Hoar of Ellenville; three sisters, Mrs. George Garland and Mrs. John
Keester, both of Tenafly, N. J., and Mrs. Robert Michel of Napanoch;
also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Loucks Funeral Home Inc., 79 North Main Street, Ellenville, Friday at 2 p. m. The Rev. George H. Winn, pastor of Ellenville Reformed Church will officiate. Burial will be in Fantinekill
Cemetery, Ellenville.
Members of Kimball Hose Co. will conduct services at the funeral home Thursday 8 p. m. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 and
Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9
p. m.

For more then sixty years the insurance business founded in Ellenville by the Late Uriah E. Terwilliger has been on of the most flourishing commercial establishment of this section of the State. Associated with the founder and at this writing carrying on where the elder had begun, is his son, Bert h. Terwilliger. Upstanding citizens both, the son is a most worthy successor to the man whose name was synonymous with progress and substantial business enterprise. Bert H. Terwilliger was born in Ellenville, May 21, 1874, son of Uriah E. and Alice A. (Hoar) Terwilliger, Uriah was also born in Ellenville, in 1850, and was educated at the Claverack Military Academy. For upward of thirty years he owned and conducted the resort of Mount Meenagha, a beautiful and popular vacation place of five square miles in the mountains near Ellenville. At the same time he managed his real estate and insurance business in Ellenville and assumed a commanding position in the community for his sturdy citizenship and inviting personality. For the last twenty years of his life he had partially retired. His death occurred in 1923. He had been offered and declined the vice-presidency of the Continental fire Insurance Company of New York, as well as the management of the North British & Mercantile Insurance Company, his other interest demanding as much of his time as he cared to devote to business affairs, outside of Mount Meenagha, in which he had some $300,000 invested. He came of Dutch stock and many of his ancestors fought in the patriotic army in the War of the Revolution. Alice A. (Hoar) Terwilliger, his wife, was a daughter of George A. Hoar, of Ellenville, a builder of canal boats and a very successful citizen, of English ancestry.
Bert H. Terwilliger was educated in the schools of Ellenville, and at Worcester Academy, Worcester, Massachusetts, from which he was graduated in 1895. He at once began his life-work as assistant to this father in the management of the Mount Meenagha estate. This property was sold in 1922 and the son afterward devoted himself solely to the insurance and real estate offices in Ellenville. He is a director of the First national Bank of Ellenville and a trustee of the Ellenville Savings Bank. He holds membership in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, of Kingston, and in Wawarsing Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons. He is a member of the Shawangunk County Club, and attends the Dutch Reformed Church in Ellenville.
Mr. Terwilliger married, at Bergen, New York, October 26, 1900, Tone, daughter of Thomas J. and (Mrs.) Spafford tone, her father having been principal of the schools in Cincinnati, Ohio, who retired and removed to Bergen. Their children are: 1. Robert S., a graduate of Worcester Academy and of Amherst college, where he received the degree of Bachelor of Arts. 2. Katherine Tone, a graduate of Hillside School, Norwalk, Connecticut, and now a student at Wellesley College.

Age 83 years, of Fayette Bank Building, Uniontown, Pa., passed away in the Uniontown Hospital Thursday, December 12, 1974 at 11:40 p.m. She was the daughter of the late George W. and Anna Hoar Smart. She was a retired piano teacher and a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Grace S. Choate, with whom she made her home; one nephew, Homer D. Choate, Largo, Florida. Friends will be received in the Edward E. Minerd Funeral Home, 196 W. Main St., Uniontown, Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday until 2 p.m., the hour of service, with Rev. Russell Turner officiating. Interment in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
