    Martha Born 1834, in New York State. She married Orrin A. Root on April 10, 1858, in Lorain County, Ohio. Minister was Madison Elliott.
    William Nicknamed "Wid"was born in Ohio in 1836. Married Addie E. Rogers on May 11, 1859. He stayed in Ohio when the family moved to Michigan. It is said that he then moved to Wisconsin or Illinois.

    Alexander R. Born in Ohio in 1836, and died in 1881. Married Katherine Stoner.on March 22, 1863 in Defiance, Ohio. They were burned out of their house three times. Some of their children died in those fires. Alexander and Katherine are buried in unmarked graves near the Dighton Thomas plot of Richland Township cemetery. Katherine was shown living with her sons, Ben (head of household) and William Dell and his family in Mills Township, Midland, Michigan in 1900. In 1910 she is listed as living in the home of William Dell and his family in Mills Township.

    Obituary:
    Merrill, Aug. 11 - (Special) - While Frank Thomas of Merrill, his wife and two children and two children of J. H. Whitney, the Merrill hardware dealer in whose store Mr. Thomas was employed, were driving near Paine's Station Sunday afternoon, the horses became frightened at a dog and ran away. All were thrown out of the carriage. Mr. Thomas fell between the wheels. His right thigh was fractured and he received internal injuries from which he died at 8:30 o'clock last night. The other occupants of the carriage escaped injury. Mr. Thomas was about 32 years of age and was highly respected by the residents of this community. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed."
