    Thursday, Dec. 16, 1915
    Died From Two Accidents
    Thomas B. Cooper living six miles east of here, died Monday evening, from the shock of two accidents that befell him within a few days of one another. A few days before his death he stumbled in the yard and sustained a deep gash over one of his eyes. On Monday morning he was driving homeward and at the Eibes corner the horse slipped into a deep ditch at the road intersection. His left hip was broken and so was his left collar bone. The buggy was demolished. Mr. Cooper did not rally from the shock of the accident and died that night.
    Thomas B. Cooper was born in Platte City, Mo., November 15, 1840. He was united in marriage to Julia M. Horr, October 4, 1866. To this union were born eleven children, six of whom survive, namely William Cooper, of Leavenworth, Lizzie A., and Ernest H., of Linwood, Eugene B., of Platte City, Mo., Laura H., and Charlie B., Tonganoxie. Mrs. Cooper died May 16, 1886. In 1902 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mattie Miller who also survives as do three sisters, two brothers and fifteen grandchildren. The deceased had been a resident of this county for fifteen years. He spent most of his life in Platte county, Mo. He enlisted in the confederate army at the age of 19 and served a little over four years.
    Funeral services were held at the home yesterday morning at ten o'clock and were conducted by Rev. Gordon of the Methodist church. Interment took place in the Glenwood cemetery.

    Harold Layton Cooper
    PARSONS - Harold Layton Cooper, 97, of Parsons, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2005, at Labette County Medical Center in Parsons.
    He was born Aug. 20, 1907, in rural Linwood to Charles B. and Audrey (McLane) Cooper.
    He grew up in DeSoto, Kansas City, Kan., and rural Dennis. He attended the Sylvandale School west of Dennis.
    He married Opal Tracy on March 2, 1934, in Columbus. She survives.
    He had lived in Parsons since 1934. In the mid-1930s, he owned and operated Coopers' Cafe in Parsons. He operated the restaurant at Phipps Bowling Alley and worked at the Kansas Ordnance Plant. In 1942, he began working for M-K-T Railroad as ta conductor and brakeman. He retired in 1972.
    He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where he was active in the United Methodist men's group and the Criterion Sunday school class until a decline in his health. He was a member and past president of the Metro Club and was a member of the Parsons Lodge No. 117 AF & AM. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.
    Additional survivors include one daughter, Sybil Sue Cooper of Garland, Texas; three sons, Harold "Bud" Cooper of Shawnee, Charles Cooper of Morrow, Ohio, and Steve Cooper of McCune; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two half sisters, Joyce Paxton of Holiday Island, Ark., and Margie Snodgrass of Sun City, Ariz.
    He was preceded in death by one infant sister, Julia May, and two half sisters, Mildred Wilson and Bessie Golden.
    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons with the Rev. Paul Hett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Arrangements are under the direction of Carson-Wall Funeral Home.

    Harold married Opal Edith Tracy on 2 Mar 1934 in Columbus, Cherokee Co, Kansas, USA. Opal (daughter of Roscoe Lonzo Tracy and Rena Viola Blunt) was born on 6 Aug 1915 in , Greene Co, Missouri, USA; died on 17 Feb 2009 in Parsons, Labette Co, Kansas, USA; was buried in Parsons, Labette Co, Kansas, USA (Memorial Lawn Cemetery).     EUDORA -- Bess G. Brewster, 84, Eudora, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at a Eudora nursing center.
    She was born June 14, 1918, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Charles B. and Viola M. Sprouse Cooper.
    She married S. Earl Brewster. He preceded her in death.
    Survivors include a son, John R. Brewster, Oregon; a brother, Harold Cooper, Parsons; two sisters, Joyce Paxton, San Diego, and Maggie Snodgrass, Phoenix; and five grandchildren.
    Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Silent City Cemetery, DeSoto.

    Joyce Irene Paxton, a resident of Holiday Island, AR, was born April 23, 1932, in DeSoto, KS, a daughter of Charles and Viola (Sprouse) Cooper. She departed this life Thursday, March 4, 2010, in Eureka, AR, at the age of 77. Mrs. Paxton was a Bookkeeper. She was a member of the Sons & Daughters of the American Revolution. Joyce was of the Methodist Faith. She is survived by her loving companion, Ray Coleman of Holiday Island, AR; son, Eric Bowers of Olathe, KS; daughter, Lisa & Brad Roche of Roswell, GA; son, David Bowers of Independence, MO; daughter, Kathleen & Kevin Bolling of Lawson, MO; son, Kevin & Kelly Paxton of Olathe, KS; son, Philip Paxton of Olathe, KS; step-daughters, Debbie Coleman of Eureka Springs, AR, Denise (Nesi) Coleman of Eureka Springs, AR; sister, Marge Snodgrass of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Bud Cooper of Parsons, KS; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and a host of friends.
