    EAST MACHIAS - Helen Lindsey Foster, 91, passed away June 12, 2009. She was born June 19, 1917, in East Machias, daughter of Raleigh and Nellie (Hoar) Sprague. Helen worked for many years at Marshall Manor and Healthcare Facility as a certified nurse's aide, as well as many years at Downeast Community Hospital. She was predeceased by her first husband, Samuel Lindsey in 1957; as well as her second husband, Carleton Foster in 1987; one son, Samuel Lindsey; and two daughters, Nellie Feeney and Lucy Copp. Helen is survived by a son, Richard Lindsey of Portland; three daughters, Joyce Clark of East Machias, Nancy Smith and her husband, Keith, of Beals Island and Florence Wood and her husband, Joe, of East Machias; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Annie Lindsey of Massachusetts; a son-in-law, Gary Copp of Jonesboro; a special niece, Virginia Look; and a special nephew, Earle Smith, in addition to many other nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial will be held 2 p.m. June 22 at East Machias Congregational Church Cemetery, East Machias, with a gathering after the service at the home of Joyce Clark. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Helen's memory to Downeast Hospice of Maine, 24 Hospital Lane, Calais, ME 04619.

    UPTON - Andrew S. Nelson Jr., 63, of 16 Fiske Ave. died yesterday in The Medical Center of Central Massachusetts - Memorial, Worcester, after a short illness.
    He leaves his wife, Helen E. (Davis) Nelson; two sons, Kevin D. Nelson of Harwinton, Conn., and Corey L. Nelson of West Upton; a daughter, Tracy A. Maynard of Milford; and three grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson observed their 39th wedding anniversary recently. He was born in East Machias, Maine, son of Andrew S. and Thursa (Hoar) Nelson, and lived here 60 years.
    He graduated from the former Upton High School.
    He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
    Mr. Nelson was a purchasing agent at Baystate Abrasives in Westboro, where he worked for 39 years. He retired in 1988.
    Mr. Nelson was a former assistant scoutmaster and troop committee member of Troop 132, Boy Scouts of America.
    Private graveside services will be held tomorrow in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. John McKenna will officiate. There are no calling hours. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Williams-Pedersen Funeral Home, 45 Main St., is directing arrangements.

    HOAR TRUMAN E. Truman E. Hoar of Essex passed away peacefully on December 14 2009 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He is survived by his wife Betty L. (Pollard) Hoar of Essex and his daughter Judith Hoar of Old Saybrook. He was predeceased by his parents Horace T. & Kathleen M. (Holmes) Hoar a son John Frederick Hoar and his sister Jean McCulloch. He was born in East Machias ME and graduated from Chapman Tech. in New London. He served in the US Army in WWII and the Korean conflict and was the battalion commander of the Ct National Guard in Westbrook. Truman was a plumbing heating and electrical contractor with HT Hoar & Sons. He held a master license in all three trades. When his father retired he incorporated the business to Saybrook Contractors where he mentored his longtime companion and extended family member Rob Clark. Truman had a passion for collecting antique tools guns and stray cats. His extensive tool collection was eventually sold and some pieces ended up at the Smithsonian Institute. Funeral services and interment are private.     Old Lyme ? Jean Adair McCulloch, 69, of Rowland Road, died at home Friday.
    She was born on Jan. 27, 1931 in Lincoln, N.H., the daughter of Kathleen Hoar of Old Saybrook and the late Horace Hoar.
    She lived in California for 30 years, teaching junior high school mathematics. She also worked as a secretary at Stanford University and did volunteer work.
    Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband, David, whom she married in 1956; four children, Matthew McCulloch of Palo Alto, Calif., Katherine De Los Santos of Old Lyme, Paul McCulloch of Washington, D.C. and Robb McCulloch of Sebastabol, Calif.; a brother, Truman Hoar of Essex; and five grandchildren.
    Services will be private. Contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of the donors choice. The Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook, is in charge of arrangements.

    Maurice R. Hoar, 74, of Sunset Rd, Old Saybrook, died Monday (November 18, 2002) at Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Pauline (Still) Hoar, born on October 28, 1928 in Lincoln, NH son of the late Bernard and Vivian Washburn Hoar. He lived in Old Saybrook for the past 60 years, graduated at Old Saybrook High School Class of 1947. He owned and operated Saybrook Electric Motor Shop in Old Saybrook for the past 36 years. He was an Army veteran serving in the Korean War also served with the Connecticut National Guard 246th Engineer Company in Westbrook.     Obituary:
    Mr. Marvin James Hoar Sr., 65, of Oxford Street, entered into rest April 25, 2003.
    He was the beloved husband for 43 years of Mrs. Barbara Brenner Hoar.
    In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Marvin J. Hoar Jr. and James B. Hoar and daughter-in- law, Dana A. Baldride; three daughters, Gena V. Adams and son-in-law, W. Mike Adams, Eva A. McDonald and son-in-law, Brian S. McDonald and Victoria L. Brady; three grandchildren Ben and Grace Adams and Theron Hoar.
    A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home.
    Friends may call Tuesday from 5:30 until the time of service.

    Helen I. Chubbuck
    Oakland-Helen I. (Lund) Chubbuck, 66, of Oak St. passed away on February 18, 2007 at her residence after a long battle with lung disease.
    She was born in East Machias on August 20, 1940 the daughter of Robert and Phyllis (Hoar) Lund.
    Helen was a life long housewife and mother of six. She loved playing beano.
    She was predeceased by her parents, brothers Russell and Phillip Lund.
    Helen will be sadly missed by her children and family, Laurie and Dale Dill of Turner, Phyllis Chubbuck and companion Darlene Robbins of Oakland, Robert Chubbuck of Belgrade, Ina and John Dyer of Oakland, Brenda Sterling of Oakland, Belinda and Dana Austin of Litchfield, 13 grandchildren, and 8 grandchildren.
    There will not be any calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at her home.
