Mary Levasseur, 96
WRENTHAM -- Mary Louise (Hoar) Peterson Levasseur, 96, died June 27, 2005, at her home at the Maples Rehabilitation Center, Wrentham, after a brief illness.
Born in Roxbury, Mass., on Nov. 22, 1908, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Gately) Hoar. Her family moved to Norfolk where she and her siblings grew up, and attended Norfolk and Walpole schools. She would live later most of her life in Franklin.
She was the wife of Albert Levasseur of Wrentham, and the late Frederick Peterson of Franklin.
Over the years, she worked for several local merchants, as well as The Norwood Press, the Kendall Co., the Mount Washington Hotel, Whiting & Davis, and New England Telephone.
In her youth, and while she raised her own son, Mrs. Levasseur helped raise and care for her younger brothers and sisters. She also loved to swim and ride motorcycles. Later as a homemaker, she was a great cook, gardener, and a dangerous handyman around the house. Besides her family, she loved her dogs and the ocean, and spent a good part of many summers in Sandwich. She was also a voracious reader, and was particularly interested in stories of servicemen missing in action, like her brother, Laurence, lost in World War II.
She will be greatly missed.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son and his wife, Frederick and Dorothy Peterson of Norfolk; her grandsons and their wives, James and Jean Peterson of Franklin, and Richard Peterson of North Attleboro; her sister and her husband, Mildred and Anthony Bonafazzi of Franklin; her brother and his wife, Ralph and Lois Hoar of Franklin; her sister, Rosemarie Hoar of Franklin; her brother, Thomas Hoar of Baltimore, Md.; and her nieces and nephews; and friends at Maples.
Private graveside services will be held later today in the Union Cemetery, Franklin.
Arrangements are in the care of the RJ Ross Funeral Home, Wrentham Center.Mary married Frederick Peterson. [Group Sheet]
