Alfred B. Dale
Alfred B. Dale, aged 81 years, died last night at the Hygienic Institute in Geneva, of Bright's disease. He had been there about five weeks. For several years Mr. Dale had not been in good health.
Mr. Dale was born in Portsmouth, England. He came here about 1850, and took up the practice of architect and builder. This he followed until his sight failed him and his health became broken. He drew the plans of many of the older houses about the city. Among them were the Judge Boardman residence in East Buffalo Street near DeWitt Park. He designed also the Wilgus, Titus, Masonic and Sprague blocks and the old Ithaca Hotel.
Several years ago Mr. Dale gave up his practice. He rested for awhile and then took up the insurance business. He had represented the Continental Casualty Company of Chicago for many years, and in later years had give all his time to this company. He had been in business at 102 East State Street for over 50 years.
Mr. Dale was an uncle of John C. Gauntlett of 211 Stewart Avenue.
The funeral will be held at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the home of Mr. Gauntlett. The Rev. W. Herbert Hutchinson will officiate. Interment will be in the City Cemetery.
