Bertrand A. Walker, 87
SPRING HILL, Fla. - Bertrand Alfred Walker, 87, formerly of Portland died Monday, Mar. 7, 2005 in Spring Hill, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Mildred Brown Walker. He was predeceased by his first wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Horr Walker.
He was a US Army veteran of World War II, having served in post-war Japan with the Third Railroad Service.
Upon return to the States, he joined the City of Portland Fire Dept., serving until his retirement in 1973.
He was a member of Cornerstone Masonic Lodge # 216. Mr. Walker had resided in Spring Hill, Fla., for over 20 years and had returned to Maine each summer to enjoy his family and golfing at Riverside.
Besides his widow, he is survived by a brother, Sheldon E. Walker of Oberlin, Ohio. His surviving children include Richard and Elizabeth Walker of Windham, Gail and Adam Leighton of Simsbury, Conn., and Joy and David Halligan of Falmouth. He also leaves three grandsons including D. Andrew Halligan III and Patrick R. Halligan of Falmouth, and Adam Walker Leighton and wife Susanne of West Simsbury, Conn., whose children, Abigail and Elizabeth, are his surviving great-granddaughters. Other family members include Bertha and James Walker of Spring Hill and step-children, Cynthia and Nicholas Baratta of Spring Hill; Ronald and Deborah Brown Jr. of Cumberland; and Deborah and Harold Bailey of Gardiner.
Visitation will be on Friday, Mar. 11 from 10-11 a.m. with an 11 a.m. funeral service at Hay & Peabody Funeral Home, 749 Congress Street, Portland. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
