      Phillip T. Hodgin, M.D., 85, Orleans, died at 3:22 p.m. Tuesday Dec. 26, at Bloomington Hospital of Orange County.
      Born July 29, 1915, in Richmond, he was the son of David O. and Helen Kenworthy Hodgin. He married Iris Hoar, June 1, 1940, and she survives.
      He graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in 1939 and received a masters degree in public health administration at the University of Michigan in 1942. He served as district director in western Indiana for the Indiana State Board of Health from 1942-44, then served in the Army Occupational Forces in Japan through 1946. He opened his office in Orleans for practice of family medicine in 1946 and retired in 1992 after 46 years in practice.
      He served as Orange County Health Officer from 1948 to 1991, was a charter and life member of the American Academy of Family Practice, life member of the American Medical Association, the Indiana State medical Association, Indiana Public Health Association and Orange County Medical Society.
      He was a birthright Quaker. He was honored for his dedicated service to the citizens of Orleans in 1985 when he was selected as the Dogwood Festival Citizen of the Year. In addition to practicing medicine, one of his great pleasures was playing tennis.
      Also surviving are one son, P.T. Hodgin Jr., M.D., Indianapolis; two daughters, Barbara Justice, Lake Wylie, SC and Cathy Holloway, Raleigh, NC; one brother, Everett Hodgin, Richmond; and seven grandchildren.
      He was preceded in death by his parents.
      Funeral services were held Friday at the Chastain funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Strange officiating. Burial was in Claysville Cemetery.
      Casketbearers were Luke Hodgin, P.T. Hodgin, Jr., Ed Holloway, Michael Holloway, Andrew Justice and Richard justice.
      The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
