      Obituary:
EDGEMONT | Robert Delos "Bob" Tubbs, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Custer Regional Hospital.

Bob was born Nov. 9, 1921, in a little 12 X 16 homestead house in Fall River County, two miles outside of Edgemont, to Carl A. and Winnie J. (Wallace) Tubbs. He attended school at the Dry Creek School through eighth grade. He then went to high school in Edgemont and graduated in 1939. He spent four years in the U.S. Army Medical Corps, three in New Guinea and two or three months in Japan.

After he returned from his service, he took over the family dairy and ranch. Bob worked tirelessly on the ranch and dairy, milking cows twice a day and delivering milk. He was an excellent example for his three children, Shelley, Mark and Nancy, of someone who worked hard, persevered through many challenges, and loved his family and community.

During his leisure time, Bob served on the Fall River County Fair Board for 50 plus years, was a Master Mason and Shriner, a member of the American Legion and a school board member. On Nov. 20, 1999, Bob was inducted into the South Dakota Fairmans Hall of Fame. Bob was also a member of the National Grasslands for 50 years and the South Dakota Stock Growers Association. He served as a brand inspector for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; son, Mark (Danielle); daughters, Shelley (Pat) O'Connor, and Nancy Goodwin and husband Brian Hartmann; grandchildren, Ryan O'Connor, Courtney Goodwin, Jessica Tubbs, and Nate Tubbs; brother, Niel (Verna) Tubbs; sister, Joy Hoar; brother-in-law, John (Donna) Parks; caregiver, Trisha Hair; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wallace and Edward.

Ted Sheehan of Upton, WY, was a very special friend. Bob enjoyed coffee time with Mason Miller, Ken Barker and Marvin Kern in his retirement years.

Bob liked to tell people to "take a pencil and paper and draw it out" to solve problems. He had a sense of humor and a common sense approach to life.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at United Church in Edgemont with Pastor Thomas Peacock officiating. Interment will follow at the Edgemont Cemetery. Masonic rites will be provided by Mountain View Masonic Lodge 161.

A memorial has been established in Bob's name to benefit the Edgemont Volunteer Ambulance Service.

Arrangements have been placed in the care of McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Edgemont. Written condolences may be made at www.mccolleyschapels.com .
