Obituary:
YORKTOWN ? Robert Maxwell Brown, 88, retired U.S. Army Major, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000.
He was born in Chautauqua, N.Y., on April 15, 1912, and was the son of the late Veda Maxwell Brown and Robert Lewis Brown.
Major Brown received his bachelor's degree in education from the University of New York and his master's degree in education from the College of William and Mary. Major Brown served during World War II and later served tours of duty in Japan; Korea; Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Holabird, Md. and retired from Fort Monroe in 1963. Following retirement, Major Brown taught and coached at St. Vincent's Catholic High School and later was an instructor at the Transportation School at Fort Eustis. Major Brown was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Thomas Nelson Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Army and Navy Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Hughes Brown; son, Paul R. Reagon; and two daughters, Karen B. Livsey and Sheila R. Burcher. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eric Anable, Robin Anable, Charlotte Burcher, John Burcher, Matthew Burcher, Heather Reagon Martin and John Casey Reagon.
Memorial services will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 13, by the Rev. Thomas E. Bosserman at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newport News. Family will receive friends following the service until 8:30 p.m. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery in Baltimore, Md., at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
