Obituary
Veneta Durrant Hoar 1915 ~ 2005 Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on Oct. 15, 2005 in Sandy, Utah. She was 89 years old. Veneta was born on Nov. 12, 1915 in Lyman, Wyoming to Joseph Edward and Henriette Rich Durrant. She was the seventh daughter. Veneta married Vern Robert Hoar on Sept. 2, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He preceded her in death. They had four children, J. Brent (Milly), Robert Carver (Linda), Christie (deceased), Penny (Dennis) Neumann; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Mom was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many positions including Primary President, Relief Society President, and Young Women's President at the age of 18. Mom was also Quilt Chairman for many years having as many as 25 quilts at a time. Her mother taught her well. She was active in the community helping with the Cancer Drive, Heart Fund, and Primary Children's Hospital to name a few. Mom taught school in Lyman, Wyoming when she was young and worked in the first J.C. Penneys in Evanston, Wyoming, later transferring to the Sugarhouse store as a cashier and bookkeeper. This is where Mom met our Dad. The remainder of her life was devoted to her family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2005 at 10 a.m. at Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 South State Street. A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2005 from 6 - 8 p.m. and one hr prior to services at Lake Hills. Interment at Lake Hills Memorial Park. A special thanks and much appreciation for all of the help, concern, and care given to mom by the Staff, Nurses Aides, and Nurses at the Sandy Regional Medical Facility. In lieu of flowers a donation to the John C. Fremont Elementary, 4249 So. Atherton, Taylorsville, Utah 94123 in the name of Christie Hoar would be greatly appreciated. Velma Durrant Taylor, age 81, passed away on April 30, 2003 in West Valley City.
She was born September 16, 1921 in Lyman, Wyoming to Joseph Edward Durrant and Henriete Rich. She attended school in Wyoming.
Velma married Harold Joseph Taylor on November 20,
1953 in Salt Lake City, Utah; later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 6, 1975.
Velma lived in Wyoming; Boise, Idaho; Salt Lake City; and raised her family in West Valley City.
She is survived by her daughter Melodee and Brad Bennett of West Valley City; her sons Jim and Linda Taylor, and Craig Taylor and Karen Ashley of Las Vegas, Nevada; her sister Veneta Hoar and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and sisters.
A viewing will be held on Friday, May 2, 6-8 p.m. at Salt Lake Jordan North Stake Center, 3900 S. 4000 W., in West Valley City and one hour prior to the noon service on Saturday, May 3 at the Stake Center. Interment will take place at the Lake Hills Memorial Park, 10055 S. State Street, in Sandy.
