      Deceased Name: Vera M. Gilmartin
      NEWPORT -- Vera M. Gilmartin, 92, died Sept. 11, 2002, at New London Hospital.
      She was born on Dec. 31, 1909, in Plainfield, Mass., the daughter of Harry and Laura (Horr) Stetson. Mrs. Gilmartin was raised in Adams, Mass., where she graduated from Adams High School. She was also a graduate of the Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton, Mass.
      After marrying Edward Gilmartin Jr., they resided in Pittsfield, Mass., for 25 years where they raised their family. She had lived in Newport since 1991.
      Mrs. Gilmartin was employed as a textile finisher for Elmvale Worsted Company in Pittsfield for 15 years. During World War II, she was employed with General Electric.
      The family includes a son, Norman Gilmartin of Osterville, Mass.; a daughter, Marilyn Halleck of Newport; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marvis Sheldon of Juno Beach, Fla., and Annis Wyatt of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews.
      She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years in 1991.
      SERVICES: A calling hour is from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Hanscom officiating. Burial will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery.
