Obituary:
Beverly June Whitton MacLeod, 70
HARRISON -- Beverly June Whitton MacLeod, 70, a 31 year resident of Harrison, suffered a heart attack Sunday morning in her home and was life flighted to CMMC where she died on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, with her loving husband and family by her side. She was born in Portland on Oct. 5, 1941, and resided on Peaks Island throughout her childhood. She was the daughter of Meldeau (deceased) and Gladys (deceased) Hoar Whitton; and is survived by her sister, Marlene Whitton Thibeault of Standish, and her brother, Meldeau 'Sonny' Whitton of Cumberland. Her sister Cheryl Whitton Dennison is deceased and formerly of South Portland and Bangor.
Beverly married, the first time, at a young age and started raising a family, with Benjamin O'Reilly Jr. on Cliff Island. It was then that she gave birth to her sons, Benjamin Hammond O'Reilly III of Harrison, Brian Gordon O'Reilly of Westbrook, Shawn Michael O'Reilly of Palmetto, Fla., and a daughter, Kelly Jean O'Reilly Profenno of Freeport.
Beverly will be missed by all who knew her, but especially by her husband and soul mate of 43 years, Myles Kenneth MacLeod. On June 1, 1968, Beverly began her second marriage with her true love and life long partner. With Myles 'Rusty' she gave birth to three more daughters. Michelle Kendra MacLeod Saylor of Meredith, N.H., Melanie Rae MacLeod Wooster of Harrison, and Miranda Lee MacLeod, also of Harrison. Together, Beverly and Myles endured the ups and downs of life, marriage, and raising children.
She loved to entertain and have her family and friends around her. A short list of those people included her loving husband; three siblings; seven children and their spouses; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous cousins; nieces, and nephews; as well as her dog, Nakita.
Beverly was creative, talented, and resourceful. She could sew beautiful wedding gowns for her daughters, cut firewood on her own even if it was a board her husband had planned to use for furniture building, knit blankets for her grandchildren, cook and bake for 60 people without blinking an eye, garden, waitress, care for the elderly, work in retail, cheer for the Red Sox, cheer for her children and grandchildren in any sport they play, drink coffee with friends and talk for hours, do arts and craft projects with her grandchildren, and the list just keeps going.
In her lifetime, Beverly raised her children currently ranging in ages from 54 to 34, her children's friends, and their friend's children. Ultimately, what she did best was love and be loved. Live, love, and laugh.
At her request, there will be a gathering to celebrate her life at 1179 Edes Falls Rd., Harrison, on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2011, from 1 until 6 p.m.; words of love and encouragement at 2:30 p.m., followed by visiting hours.
Thank you to the kind people of CMMC's ICU, first responders, life flight pilot, ER staff at Bridgton Hospital, and the friends that supported her and her family.
