  [[Obituary: Portland Newspapers Nov 19, 1999 Durward E. Robbins, 83, of Gray Road died Wednesday at his home. He was born in Rangeley, a son of Ernest and Lila Hoar Robbins. He was a graduate of Rangeley High School, where he received varsity letters in basketball, baseball and track. Mr. Robbins later moved to Portland and began working for H.H. Haye Drug Store. During World War II, he was a carpenter at the South Portland shipyards. He also completed correspondence courses to improve his carpentry skills. After the war, Mr. Robbins worked as a carpenter with Albert Knight, and together they eventually became partners in the business, building homes throughout the Portland area. Mr. Robbins enjoyed vegetable gardening, spending time with his children and maintaining a farm stand at his Stroudwater home in Portland for many years. He also enjoyed the family camp in Rangeley, skiing and traveling with his wife. His wife, Leontine St. Germain Robbins, died in November 1998. Surviving are three sons, Michael E. of Havelock, N.C., William E. of Niagara Falls, N.Y., and Richard T. of Gorham; a brother, Olin of Rangeley and Mission, Texas; a sister, Wilma Towle of Wilton; and eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road, where a funeral will follow at 10 a.m. The Rev. Donald Drake will officiate. Burial will follow in Smith Cemetery.
