      Elsie P. Rittenhouse November 29, 1915 - November 10, 2005 Elsie P. Rittenhouse, 89, a resident of Obesson Manor Nursing Home and formerly of Chestnut St., Lewistown, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at the nursing home. Born Nov. 29, 1915, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Rufus Elder and Bessie (Thornburg) Garrett. Surviving are a daughter, Betsy Geertson, of Lemont; a special daughter, Mrs. Jeffrey (Jeanne) Bossert Hoar, of McClure; a brother, J. Lewis Garrett, of Phoenix, Ariz.; son-in-law, Steve Edmiston, of Lewistown; niece, Susan Bossert; nephews, Sam Bossert, Jack Bossert, Lee Bossert, David Fry and their families; and a grandson, Seth Klinger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Bossert and Mildred Fry, and a daughter, Sara J. "Sally" Edmiston, on May 29, 2004. She was a secretary for Dr. Breesman, retiring in 1982. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was secretary of Silver Star Sunday School Class since 1967, taught the children's department for 25 years, and a member of Marietta Circle. She was also a member of the 20th Century Club, William Penn Auxiliary, Lewistown Hospital Auxiliary, and Historical Society. She was a volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels, American Red Cross Bloodmobile, Blind Foundation and Adult Literacy Program. In addition to her many volunteer activities throughout the course of her life, she touched the lives of many children in her neighborhood and her church. A celebration of Elsie's life will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at the First United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Richard Noll and Karen McCachren officiating. Her family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Monday, until the time of the service at the church. The family will provide all flowers and request memorials be made to Matthew 25 Fund, in care of First United Methodist Church, 200 E. Third St., Lewistown, PA 17044 or to the Wheatens In Need, in care of Betsy Geertson, P.O. Box 275, Lemont, PA 16851. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hoenstine Funeral Home Inc., 75 Logan St., Lewistown.
