Deceased Name: ROBERT LEE GUINTER, 70, WWII VETERAN
Robert Lee Guinter, 75, of 70 Wise Ave., died Thursday at Conestoga View following a two-year illness.
Following many years working in the insurance industry, he became the manager of the hardware department of the former Mailman's department store and owned and operated a motel in Lebanon County, retiring in 1979.
He was the husband of Catherine W. "Kitty" Miley Hoar Guinter. They had been married 18 years.
Guinter was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lancaster.
He also belonged to American Legion Post 34 of Lancaster and the Millersville-Manor Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7294.
A 1941 graduate of Milton High School, he served in World War II, first with the Army Air Forces in Greenland, and later with the Army Corps of Engineers in India, where he helped build the Burma Road.
Born in Northumberland County, he was the son of the late Harry S. and Mary Ann Ball Guinter.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Frances B., wife of John Gouveia of Lancaster, Mary Ann Englert of Mount Joy and Margaret L., wife of Brian Smeltz of Keene, N.H.; two sons, Steven D., husband of Janine M. Guinter of Lancaster, and Robert T., husband of Emma Guinter of Lititz; 12 grandchildren; three stepsons, James S. Hoar, David S. Hoar and Timothy K. Hoar, all of Lancaster; two stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, John of Philadelphia; and two sisters, Sarah Hoffman and Madelon Stump, Milton.
