PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - Vernon L. Thompson, 64, 1920 Timmonds St., died Friday in Portsmouth Hospital.
He was born Dec. 14, 1941, in Somerset, Ky., to the late Luther O. Thompson and Hazel Mae (Thompson) Goodpaster, who survives in Marion.
He married Elizabeth Thompson in 1991. She survives in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He worked as a self-employed painter, decorator and contractor. Most of his life was spent in the Rushville area. He also lived in Florida and spent the last four years of his life in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Additional survivors include stepdaughters, Melissa (Scott) Horr, Portsmouth, Ohio, and Ann Marie Drew, Cincinnati; stepsons, Ernie Heffner, Portsmouth, Todd (Kerrie) Stanelle, Charlotte, N.C., and Mark (Linda) Stanelle, Loveland, Ohio; sister, Wanda Troyer, Marion; brother, Harold Thompson, Hamilton, Ohio; eleven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Luther O. Thompson in 1975.
Services are at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Ferguson Funeral Home, 201 W. Main St., Van Buren, with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating. Burial is in Gardens of Memory cemetery, Marion.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
