Margaret Hoar, Helped Found Arlington Library: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice
Washington Post, The (DC) - February 25, 1980
Deceased Name: Margaret Hoar, Helped Found Arlington Library
Margaret Hendricks Hoar, 94, a former Arlington resident who was active in Virginia historical societies, died Thursday of congestive heart failure at her home in Sumter, S.C.
Mr. Hoar lived in Arlington for more than 40 years before moving to Sumter in about 1976 to live with a son, John S. Hoar.
She was a founding member of the Cherrydale library in Arlington and a charter member of the Arlington Historical Society. She was a member of the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities and a founding member and second president of the Cherrydale Women's Club.
She was born in Orange County, and graduated from old Central High School here.
She has a short career in the Frost Service before her marriage to Crosby Arthur Hoar, a retired forester for the Forest Service. Mr. Hoar died in 1976.
Besides her son, survivors include a daughter, Nancy H., also of Sumter; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to a charity of one's choice.
