    Ronald Wayne Hoar (1938-2012)
Melbourne, FL ? Ronald W. Hoar 73, of Melbourne, FL and Rangeley, ME passed away of natural causes in Melbourne while on an afternoon run. Ron was an avid runner and competed in many races, including marathons, over the last 40+ years.
Ron was born in Farmington, Maine on August 4, 1938, a son of Allison and Frances Luger Hoar and was a graduate of Farmington High School and the University of Maine Orono. At UMO, he was manager of the college radio station and after college spent a year in radio before moving on to a career in banking and consumer credit, first with Depositor's Trust in Augusta and then relocating to J.C. Penney headquarters in Dallas, TX.
After retirement in 1999, Ron and wife Pam moved to a new home in Windover Farms, Melbourne, FL. A variety of retirement projects kept him busy. Ron was involved in the start-up of community radio station WFHA in Windover Farms. As a volunteer announcer, he became very popular with Little League players by recording the play-by-play at their games and broadcasting the games later in the week for the players to hear about themselves on radio. Ron's joy for coming to Maine in the summer and his love for Rangeley, first settled by his ancestors, was the inspiration for "clearing the land" and building a vacation home overlooking Rangeley Lake. And then came the opportunity to volunteer in the formation and operation of WGIY community radio in Rangeley. He enjoyed summer theatre in Maine and was currently close to finishing research and writing a history of Lakewood Theatre in Skowhegan.
He will always be remembered by his warm-heartedness and honesty which made him a very special friend to all who knew him.
Ron is survived by his wife Pam Eisner, son Darren Daniels, daughter Tamara Zaler, grandson Lane Hammond, mother Frances Hoar, brother Philip Haines and wife Edith, sister Jackie Dennis, sister-in-law, Valerie Thacker, many nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
He was predeceased by his father Allison Hoar.
A memorial service will be held at Windover Farms Pavilion (4025 Windover Way, Melbourne, Florida) in Melbourne at 4:30 pm on May 6.
