    MCVEYTOWN ? Betty Arlene Hoar, 77, of 101 Chestnut Ridge Rd., McVeytown, passed away peacefully at her home at 12:47 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2004. She is at peace now and no longer in pain.
    She was born in Perry County to the late Harvey F. and Adeline (Evans) Smith. Her husband of 61 years, William N. Hoar, whom she married on August 12, 1942, survives.
    Also surviving are: a daughter, Deena Arlene Zook, Lewistown, and husband Bernie and her grandchildren Jason and Kristin; a sister, Mary Louise Grubb, York; a grandson, Ronald N. Hoar Jr. of the Pittsburgh area; her great-grandchildren Nathaniel, Keisha, Clarissa and Kimberly; a daughter-in-law, Patsy Hoar, McVeytown; two nieces; and three nephews.
    She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald N. Hoar Sr., and a brother, Robert F. Smith.
    She attended Lewistown High School and later in life received her GED.
    She was employed as a seamstress and trainer at Arrow Shirt Company in Lewistown for 27 years until its closing. She retired from Scotty's Fashions in 1991.
    She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewistown, where she served as a children's Sunday school teacher for many years. She was an active member of the Lewistown High School and Penn Highlands High School Band Boosters organizations.
    She was a volunteer for many years with the American Cancer Society's Reach for Recovery Program, touching many lives with her kindness and understanding. She also served as a director on the board of the American Cancer Society.
    She loved being with family and watching her grandchildren in all their activities. She also enjoyed watching Atlanta Braves baseball and Penn State football.
    Her kind and gentle nature will be missed by all whose lives she touched. She was a special angel.
    Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park, Lewistown.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 26 N. Brown St., Lewistown, PA 17044.
