After Eva's death her two daughters were raised by their maternal grandmother. When their grandmother became too old both girls lived, for a few of years, in a Davenport Iowa orphanage . Their father visited often, he lived and worked in Davenport. He took Frances on several train trips to doctors in various states for leg operations. Frances had a forceps birth with the results being Cerebral Palsy. When the girls turned 16 they moved back to Pipestone MN and lived with family while finishing high school. Eva was almost 30 yrs at Frances' birth. JVS

"Recellus R. Horr, one of the early settlers in Monroe Iowa, was born in [Township Denmark, village Carthage, Lewis County] New York, 25 April 1837. In 1855, he left home and came to Iowa, locating in Butler County: bought 80 acres of land of L. P.Hazen who had pre-empted it for him as at that time he was too young to pre-empt land. He married 5 [7] March 1863, Miss Lena Townsend a native of Ohio. They were blessed with five children, Charles W., Arthur T., Harry W., Lena May and Irena May [twins]. Mrs. Horr died when these twins were but eight days old. He married his second wife, Mrs. George Huey [Louisa Parriott], 6 September 1878, daughter of Roby R. Parriott. The have two children, Jenny and Eva. In 1881 he bought a house and lot in Parkersburg, and now lives there. He has a farm of 320 acres which he rents. He is now living in retirement, except he speculates in real estate. pg. 637"

"Two others who arrived in 1855, were Lycurgus P. Hazen and Recellus R.Horr, both natives of the good old York State. Hazen claimed the South West quarter of section 24 and sold half to Horr, who was too young to make a land entry. Hazen was a school teacher and surveyor. He married in March 1857 to Miss Sarah J. Quinn. In 1858 removed to Kansas. He is now county surveyor of Brown County Kansas. Horr lived upon his farm until 1881, when he removed to Parkersburg, where he now lives. He still owns the land bought of Hazen and purchased adjoining land."

"An Honorable Man Passes Away.
Rucellus R. Horr, whose demise was not unexpected, after an acute illness of short duration, died at his home in this city at the age of 63. He was born in Denmark, Lewis County, New York, on April 25, 1837, and in 1855 moved to Butler County, of this state, where he has resided for forty years. During his residence there he was engaged in farming and was successful in the pursuits of life and accumulated a competency for old age. He was married to Miss Allen Townsend of Iowa Falls, in 1863, and five children were born to them. In 1878 his wife died after a long illness and left to care for his little children. The deceased was married to Mrs. Louisa Huey a year later and four daughters blessed their union, three of them are now living. The deceased moved to Rock Rapids in 1895 and his declining years were spent in comparative ease, surrounded by a happy and contented family. All through life he was regarded as an exceptional safe and reliable man, a man to be trusted and confided in, and he was never known to betray a trust. He was a conscientious Christian and lived an exemplary life. The funeral was held at the M.E. Church, Monday at 2 o'clock, Rev. Wasser, conducting the services and a large number of sorrowing friends followed the remains to its last resting-place in the Rock Rapids cemetery."

Recellus married Louisa Parriott on 9 Oct 1878. Louisa (daughter of Roby Richard Parriott and Abigail Howard) was born on 3 Apr 1843 in , Stevenson Co, Illinois, USA; died on 12 Sep 1921 in Fort Dodge, Webster Co, Iowa, USA; was buried in Aplington, Butler Co, Iowa, USA (Pleasant View Cemetery). In Marcus's will she was named Alvira. It is Elvira on her head stone. Elvira buried six of her nine children, between April 1853 and Dec 1855. In March 1856 her husband died. In 1855 her son Recellus was pioneering in Iowa. Son Charles left New York after mother Elvira died and settled in Calif. Only Evaline stayed in New York, in 1880 she was single.JVS

"In 1827 Roby R. [ Parriott] came to Vermilion County, Indiana. In 1831 he married
Miss Abigail Howard. Their children born in Vermilion County were:
Richard, Anthony, and Owen. In 1837 their son, Newton, was born in Porter County, Indiana, as well as Lucinda. The family moved to Stephenson County, Illinois in 1840, where Roby's father had died in 1837. Roby Jr., Marion, Louisa, Jasper, Wesley, and William were all born in Stephenson County, where Roby R. had purchased 360 acres of land. He resided in Illinois with his brothers and mother who owned
farms in the same area.
In 1854, Roby R. took all of his children and moved to Washington township, Butler County, Iowa where he eventually purchased 2,500 acres. Although there is no clear historical record stating the reason for his move, we know that he, and the Parriotts in general, were ambitious, pioneering people. The historical record does state that Roby came to Iowa alone before moving his family.
In the History of Butler County written in 1883, a description of the area where the family settled is given, and from the description one can only imagine the excitement Roby must have experienced over his discovery of such a beautiful place: "The township bearing this familiar name (Washington) is in the southwestern corner of Butler county...The surface is a rolling prairie, and the soil a rich dark loam with a sandy mixture. Beaver Creek passes through...there is a good supply of timber--about 800 acres...there is an abundance of excellent water....there are a number of springs which bubble up clear, sparkling water". Not only is the land described in the History of Butler County, but there are portraits of the early pioneers, and the Parriott name is mentioned often."

History of Butler County, Iowa; published in 1883, Union Publishing Company, Springfield, Illinois: Page 728:

"Early in the spring of 1854 Rueben Purcell sold his claim to Roby R. Parriott.
Mr. Parriott, whose name is indissolubly connected with the settlement and early days of this region, was a native of Virginia and came here from Stephenson County Illinois. He came here in the spring of 1854 and purchased the land as stated, and in June returned to Illinois. On the 4th of July he started back for his new home, accompanied by his family, coming overland with seven yoke of oxen, three horses, three wagons, and a top carriage, and were one month on the way. He found upon his arrival that the little log hut was too small for his family, which numbered thirteen, and he therefore erected another log house, 16x24 feet, with a "lean-to" 12x24 feet. This was the first and only hotel ever kept in the township, and in 1855 it was made a stage station. (He lodged the passengers on the stage, that made the first trip west to Waterloo.) Mr. Parriott made great improvements, and in 1868 he erected a frame house in which he lived until the time of his death in 1871."
"R. R. Parriott once ran for the office of county assessor as a Democrat and was defeated by 9 votes".

"Roby R. Parriott was born in Tyler County, Virginia, February 2, 1808. In 1827 he emigrated to Vermilion County, Indiana. He married Miss Abigail Howard in 1831, by whom he had eleven children: nine sons, and two daughters, six of whom are now living. He removed to Porter County, Indiana in 1836, and from thence to Stephenson County, Illinois in 1840, where he remained until 1854, when he located in Washington township, Butler County, Iowa. He was the first postmaster in this part of the county. He lodged the passengers on the stage that made the first trip west to Waterloo. He was the owner of the present site of the city of Ackley, and conveyed to the Dubuque and Sioux City Railroad Company one half of the town site, or every alternate lot. The Company conveyed their interest to William J. Ackley of Waterloo, hence the town derived its name. He was, at one time owner of 2,500 acres of land in this part of the country. He gave to the Dubuque and Sioux City Railroad the right of way through his entire tract of land, and worked earnestly for the establishment of the road. He was also liberal in donating to the Iowa Central Railroad Company".

Algonquin Post office. This office was established in 1855 with R. R. Parriott who was postmaster. The office was kept at his hotel. In 1857 the office was removed to Aplington and the name changed."

In 1857 A man named Shaw, from Waterloo, was the proprietor. R. R. Parriott furnished him with the logs to build a shop...he did not stop long, as he did not find much work...afterward the shop was used as a school."

...the first town meeting held in his house. At that meeting, an oyster can was used for a ballot box". R. R. Parriott was elected Supervisor of Roads for Monroe. He was also Butler County Assessor in 1857, County Drainage Commissioner in 1860 and 1865."

"Owen,* the third son, never married. He died in 1872 at the home of his brother Wesley. He enlisted in the army in 1864 and served until the end of the Civil War." On the 1860, Stephenson County, Illinois census, Owen is listed as living with his brother Manly. He was 25 years old. He enlisted in Company H,11th Illinois. His headstone reads: "CAV VET. He dwelleth in heaven yet deep in our hearts, his image is graven and never departs. And, while we yet linger we watch and we wait, till death who has parted again shall unite. Age 37 years, 7 months, 17 days".

"Jasper** enlisted July 12 1862 in the Thirty-second Iowa, Company E. He was killed in the battle of Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, April 9, 1864."
World Book Encyclopedia:
"General Nathaniel P. Banks tried to fight his way up the Red River to capture Shreveport, Louisiana, but the Confederates under General Richard Taylor defeated him so badly in the Battle of Pleasant Hill on April 9 that he played no important part in the rest of the war."

"The first birth in the township (Washington) was that of Genevra, a daughter of Anthony and Melinda Parriott, who was born on the 19th of May, 1857....
The first marriage in the township, united the destinies of Anthony J. Parriott and Melinda Spangler, and dated August 7th, 1856."
Page 737:
"Anthony, the second son, was born in Vermilion County, Indiana, in 1830. He married, 7 August, 1856, Miss Melinda Spangler, and settled in Ackley. He moved to Sac County (Iowa) in 1870, where he died on 28 December, 1878, leaving a wife and eleven children to mourn his death."
Anthony died of "Erysipelas", and is buried in Oakland Cemetery on the same plot as his youngest son Lyle Vernon, and Melinda's father, William Spangler.
William and Anthony share a large headstone.
