    J. Hoard, Is Laid to Rest Monday in Mt. Repose, Died Saturday Morning - Was Long Prominent in County Affairs, Three Times Sheriff Joseph Hoard, resident of Friendship for 38 years, passes away suddenly at his home at 12:10am Saturday, May 13. Death resulted from a heart trouble from which he had suffered for about seven weeks, but the past week he had seemed much better and had been up and around the house, so his death came as a great shock to his family and friends. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Friendship Congregational church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Barker, former pastor of the church, who gave a very appropriate and comforting talk. The Modern Woodmen of America lodge attended in a body and members of the order acted as pall bearers. Burial was in Mount Repose cemetery. Joseph Watson Hoard was born May 25, 1867 at Pleasant Lake, Marquette county, Wisconsin. He was the son of O. B. and Elizabeth Hoard. When he was eight years old his parents moved to New Auburn, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood. From there he went to Dodge Center, Minnesota, and was married there to Miss Julia Daggett on November 30, 1887. They moved to Friendship in 1895. Nine children were born to them. Those who are now living are: Ethel (Mrs. A. M. Scott), Guy Hoard, Clarence Hoard, St. Paul, Minnesota; Arthur Hoard, Spencer; Lyle Hoard, Adams; and Arrah (Mrs. Lawrence Woodbury), Grand Marsh. Mrs. Gladys Hoard Henry died January 11, 1919, and a little son, George at the age of 15 months. There was also a baby girl who passed away at birth. Mrs. Hoard passed away March 11, 1920. Mr. Hoard was married August 23, 1920 to Mrs. Cordelia Lamphear at Grand Marsh. One son, Roy was born to them, who remains at home. His death is also mourned by two step-daughters in the home, Misses Olive and Edith Lamphear. For many years Mr. Hoard drove the mail route from Kilbourn to Friendship and later from Friendship to Coloma. He served Adams county for three terms as sheriff and for three terms as under-sheriff. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of American and the Beaver lodges. Among those who came from away to attend the funeral services were Mr. And Mrs. Clarence Hoard of Saint Paul, Mr. And Mrs. Arthur Hoard, Spencer; Mr. And Mrs. Henry Fenner, Spencer; Mr. And Mrs. Wm. Patefield, Stratford; Mr. And Mrs. Ben Fiegel, Hancock; Mr. And Mrs. Guy Hoard, Grand Marsh; Mrs. Shepard and daughters, Mabel and Myrtle, Hancock; Mr. And Mrs. Walter Lamphear, Lewiston; Mr. And Mrs. Hilbert Henningsen, Brooks; Harvey and George Bartum, Hancock; Mrs. Anton Dahlke, Ripon; George Patefield of Firewood, and son-in-law of Wausau; Mrs. George Heim, Mankato, Minnesota.

    Mrs. Delia Hoard, 69, Friendship, died just after midnight Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Claude Polivka, Bensonville, Ill., of coronary thrombosis. Funeral services were held in Friendship on Wednesday afternoon with burial in Mount Repose Cemetery. Mrs. HOARD was born at Mineral Point on November 11, 1883, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Patefield Sr. The family moved to Big Flats when she was a small child. She married William Lamphear on November 23, 1898. After his death she married Joseph W. Hoard on Aug. 23, 1922. He also preceded her in death. Surviving are seven children, Mrs. Carrie Gasparetti, Adams; Mrs. Mildred Dahlke, Ripon; Mrs. Claude Polivka and Roy Hoard; Bensonville; Walter Lamphear, Portage; William Lamphear, Friendship, and Mrs. Edith Wincell, Adams; five step children, Clarence Hoard, Minneapolis; Lyle Hoard, Adams; Mrs. Arah Woodbury, Arizona; Mrs. Edith Scott, California and Arthur Hoard, Illinois; two brothers, George Patefield, Edgar, and Felix Patefield, Colridge, Neb., and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Fiegel, Wisconsin Rapids, and Mrs. Lydia Frontz, Mineral Point. All of the near relatives, mentioned above, were present at the funeral services. Also, the following out of town nieces and nephews and families were in attendance at the funeral; Harvey Patefield of Edgar, Wis., Mrs Carol Patefield of Wisconsin Rapids, Mrs. Gladys Knapp of Wisconsin Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Buss of Mineral Point, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sargent of Darlington, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Frontz and daughter, Darlene, of Mineral Point; William Dahlke and wife of Ripon, Fred Dahlke and wife of Ripon, Mrs. Anna Niebauer of Berlin, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dahlke, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Franz, of Ripon, Mrs. Gladys Patefield and children of Fifield, Mrs. Roscoe Smith of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Hilbert Henningson of Brooks, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Patefield of Kenosha, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hoard of St. Paul, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hoard of Aurora, Ill, and Mr. and Mrs. John Zimbeck of Westfield. Besides her children and other relatives she leaves 37 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren. Funderal services were held at two o'clock in the afternoon in the Funeral Home at Friendship. Rev. J. T. O'Neill officiated, assisted by Rev. Samuel Robbins. Miss Roberta Roseberry presided at the piano. Interment was made in Mt. Repose. Pallbearers were nephews as follows: Ralph Sargent of Darlington, Glenn Buss of Mineral Point, Oscar Patefield of Coleridge, Nebraska, George Bartrum of Beloit, Harvey Bartrum of Hancock and Philip Frontz of Mineral Point. Roseberry Brothers directed the funeral.
