Verna Olive Godwin Self (Shrader) was born May 19, 1917, in Leedey, Oklahoma, to John Festus and Mildred Alzora Cutler Godwin and departed this life August 25, 2007, in Watonga, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years 3 months. he was the ninth of ten children.
In her lifetime, Verna was a domestic, waitress, seamstress, census taker, election judge, and she worked in Tincy's dress shop for 19 years. her most enjoyable job was working at Tincy's.
Her sisters, Vera Merritt, Bernice Norton, Elsie Skelton, May Godwin, Viola Reid, Lila Reininger, Merle Rash, and Elaine Godwin and one brother, Roland Godwin all preceded her in death.
In 1939 she met and married Dolphus O. Self at Watonga. They had 4 children. Dolph preceded her in death in 1979. In 1982 she married Keith Shrader. He died in 1984.
Verna is survived by her children, Weldon Self and wife, Tammy, Midlothian, Texas; Regina Glass and husband, Buddy, Watonga; Helen France and husband, Johnny, Watonga, Brenda Brummal and husband, Larry, Enid, Oklahoma.
Also surviving are her eight grandchildren; Stanley Hoar, Atoka, Oklahoma; Greg France and wife, Carrie, Watonga; Kyle Self and wife, San Jose, California; Janet Taylor and husband, Mark, Turpia, Oklahoma; Vickie Bartel and husband, Monty, Nashville, Tennessee, Kenton Self and wife, Hope, Dallas, Texas; Erik Brummal and wife, Kristi, Shawnee, Oklahoma; and Jason Brummal and wife, Amber, of Aurora, Texas.
She also leaves behind 10 great grandchildren: Ty Hoar, Kalen Taylor, Jared Hoar, Tanner France, Joseph Tweddle, Emily Taylor, Luke Self, Parker Self, Andres Self, and Anna Brummal.
Funeral services are Tuesday at 10:00 am in the First Baptist Church. Rev. Rick Harrison, Kyle Self, and Kenton Self officiating. Burial will take place in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Watonga, Oklahoma, with Wilkinson Mortuary, Watonga, Oklahoma in charge of arrangements.
