Particulars of Mrs. Plez James Death Received
Information was received here yesterday announcing the death of Mrs. Belle James at her home in Whittier, Cal. of inflammation of the brain. She was the wife of Plez James former Clerk of Clark County and was a daughter of the late Warren Horr, who was sheriff of this County for three terms. Mrs. James was a most lovable woman and had a large number of friends in this city. With her husband, father and other relatives she went from here to Kansas several years ago and then to California. Little is known here of her death further than it took place several days ago. Besides her husband there are three children living, one of them being a married daughter. Other immediate relatives are Mrs. Albert Taggart, Mrs. Emma Cole, Mrs. Foster Prather, Miss Lillie Horr and George V. Horr. Mrs. James was about 54 years of age and was born in Oregon township. Her marriage to Plez James took place about 1873.

Matilda Day married Beverly W. James 15 November 1817 in Mason Co., KY. Stephen Heiatt was the bondsman for their marriage. This leads me to believe that Matilda may have been his step-daughter. Stephen Hieatt married, in 1803, Mrs. Mary Day who had children from a previous marriage. I think Matilda was probably one of those children.
A biographical sketch of David Morris James, son of Matilda (Day) James states that his grandfather was one Morgan Day, a wealthy slave owner in Kentucky. This may or may not be accurate.
