Boltwood, Robert, sergeant, perhaps came from Essex Co., England, where the name existed as early as the reign of Edward I (1273). Robert is first named on Connecticut records in 1648, freeman, May 20, 1658. Before removing to Hadley, as one of the first settlers, he probably resided in east part of Wethersfield, now Glastenbury. An enterprising man, he was made freeman in Massachusetts, March 26, 1661, and d. on April 6, 1684.Robert married Mary Gernor.
