      Morning Call Newspaper - Oct 30, 1988
      The Rev. Thomas F. Hoar, former president and rector of Mary Immaculate Seminary, Northampton, died Friday of Lou Gehrig's disease. Hoar was president of the seminary from 1985 until becoming ill in 1987. Since 1987, he resided at St. Catherine's Infirmary, Philadelphia.
      Hoar prepared for the priesthood at St. Vincent's Seminary, Philadelphia, and in 1958 graduated from Mary Immaculate Seminary, Northampton. He was ordained in 1962 and received his doctorate in 1965 at the University of St. Thomas in Rome, Italy.
      Upon returning to the United States, he taught at the Seminary of Our Lady of Angels, Albany, N.Y., 1965-70, and 1971-72, and was president/rector of St. Vincent de Paul Seminary, Boynton Beach, Fla., 1970-71.
      During his administrative tenure from 1972 to 1985 at St. John's University in Jamaica, N.Y., Hoar held the following posts: assistant to the dean, Staten Island Campus, 1972-73; special assistant to the executive vice president, 1973-1975; dean of St. John's College, 1975- 85, and academic vice president for liberal arts and sciences and education and human services, 1980-85.
      He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.
      Survivors: Brothers, Col. William of Fairdale, Ky., and Col. Joseph of Great Neck, N.Y., and a sister, Mary, wife of George Crowley of Garden City, N.Y.
