      Obituary:
      Joseph T. Hoar
      Born in Springfield, MA on Apr. 3, 1919
      Departed on May 11, 2011 and resided in Newington, CT.

      Joseph T. Hoar, 92, of Newington, husband of the late Eleanor (McCarthy) Hoar, died Wednesday May 11, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center. Born in Springfield, MA, son of the late Patrick and Johanna (Long) Hoar, he had made his home in Newington for the past 50 years. Joe was a graduate of Weaver High School and attended the Hartford School of Art. After serving with the U.S. Coast Guard during WW II, he returned to Hartford and worked as an illustrator for the U.S. Postal Services for 37 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Newington and a member at the New Britain Museum of American Art. A lifelong artist, he earned many awards for his work, and several had been on display at the Wadsworth Athenaeum in Hartford and the New Britain Museum of American Art. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Joanne and Kenneth Russell of Wallingford, his grandchildren, Daniel Joseph Russell and Hannah Shea Russell, his sister, Marion " Nancy" Kennedy of West Hartford, several cousins and their extended families. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward and Thomas Hoar. Friends are invited to join Joanne and her family at the celebration of his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday May 14th at 9:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church 626 Willard Ave. Newington. Burial will follow in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington. There are no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be made to the New Britain Museum of American Art, 56 Lexington St. New Britain, CT 06052.
