      U.S. Army veteran,former minister
      Herbert C. Brown, 70, of 49 New Rochester Road, Dover, died Monday, Oct. 17, 2005, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.
      Herbert was born in South Berwick, Maine, on May 28, 1935, the son of Raymond and Dorothy (Horr) Brown.
      Herbert had served with the U.S. Army.
      He graduated from Dover High School, class of 1953. Herbert retired from Sears and Roebuck in the automotive service department. Prior to retirement, Herbert was a minister for 15 years. Ten of those years were spent in Kenduskeag, Maine, outside of Bangor, officiating for the Community Church.
      He loved to work on computers and repair them, and solve computer problems for his friends. Herbert loved collecting classic movies, such as John Wayne movies. He was an accomplished musician, being able to play any instrument, except the violin. He played in the high school band, Dover Community Band, and played in parades for the holidays. He had a gift of reaching out and lifting the spirits of those who were ill.
      Family members include his mother, Dorothy; a daughter, Lynn Colwell and her husband, Joshua, of Rochester; his former wife, Martha Brown of Dover; four grandchildren, Ryan, Cody, Elijah and Jeremiah, all of Rochester, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
      He was predeceased by his father, and his brother, Raymond Brown.
      Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 20, at Tasker Funeral Home, Dover, with burial following at the family lot in Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick, Maine.
