      Mrs. Schmalzried Rites Wednesday. Services for Mrs. Catherine Schmalzried, 94, of Levering who died yesterday afternoon at Lockwood-MacDonald Hospital where she had been a patient for the past week, will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Levering Methodist Church, Rev. Gerald Janousek will conduct the services and burial will be in Carp Lake Cemetery. She was born Catherine Carlton September 20, 1873, in Walkerton, Ontario, Canada and came to Levering with her family in 1878. She married John Schmalzried March 13, 1894 in Petoskey and they made their home in Levering except for five years when they lived in North Dakota. He preceded her in death in 1927. Mrs. Schmalzried was a charter member of the Levering Methodist Church. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Forest (Cora) Luesing, Mrs. Ted (Lela) Hiar, both of Levering and Mrs. Loren (Hazel) Burch, of Traverse City; two sons, Frank and Leon, of Levering; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and a brother, George Carlton, of Mackinaw City. The body is at the Stone Funeral Home where friends may call. The family requests that anyone wishing to honor the memory of Mrs. Schmalzried may contribute to the Levering Church Memorial Fund in her name.
