Hoar, Ph.D., History Department, Cape Cod Community College, whom she married in 1947 in Williamstown, MA. Survived by sisters Dorothy Potter McAlpin & Martha McAlpin Ayars; brothers-in-law Carl Sherman Hoar Jr., Richard Hoar & families, Phillip Cole, widow of Rachael Hoar Cole, Margaret Hoar and their issue.       Deceased Name: CHATHAM - Helen A. (McAlpin) Hoar
      75, died Aug. 29 at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Manor in Hyannis after a long illness.
      She was the wife of George A. Hoar, who died in 1996.
      Born in New York, Mrs. Hoar was a 1944 graduate of the Oak Grove School in Vassalboro, Maine, and also graduated in 1946 from the Chamberlain School of Retail in Boston.
      Mrs. Hoar was an accomplished seamstress and known for her culinary skills.
      For many years, she was known as a breeder of registered Scottish Terriers. She was also renown for her expertise and knowledge as an Egyptologist.
      Surviving are two sisters, Dorothy P. McAlpin of Yonkers, N.Y., and Martha McAlpin Ayars of Walpole; her companion and caregiver, Daniel Peters of Chatham; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
      A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the West Yarmouth Congregational Church, Main Street.
      Memorial donations may be made to the Museum of Fine Arts Boston Egyptology Dept., 465 Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02115.

      Dorothy Potter McAlpin died on December 20, 2012 at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. She was 87 years old and outlived her two sisters, Helen Hoar and Martha Ayars. Dorothy was born December 19, 1925 in New York City, NY to the late Kenneth Rose McAlpin, M.D., and Margarethe Potter McAlpin, and was also raised by her stepmother Margaret Lee McAlpin. Dee went to school at the House in the Pines in Norton, MA and went on to graduate from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1947. She leaves to cherish her memory her nephew David Ayars of Deerfield, IL, her niece, Wendy Ayars of Needham, MA, and other family members who to her were near and dear: Jennifer and Gary Giuffrida of Yonkers, NY, Marsha and Gordon Hunter and Stephen Hunter of Montreal, Canada, David and AnnMarie Hunter of Riverdale, NY, Virginia Bingham of New Windsor, NY, William Bingham of Kent, CT, Margot and Frederick Lash of Cornwall-on-Hudson, NY, and a host of other relatives and friends. A special mention goes to longtime caregiver, Nerissa Jarrett of Kingston, Jamaica. A memorial will be held Monday, December 31st at Leach & Thomas Funeral Home in Ossining, NY followed by an internment in the McAlpin family mausoleum at Dale Cemetery, Ossining, NY.
