      (1806-11). Ordained priest 1806. Chaplain to the Dean of Winchester, and Curate +
      of Alton, Hants (1804-7). A cleric, Vicar of Blandford, Dorset, and then Rector +
      of Godstone,nr Caterham, Surrey. Archdeacon of Winchester, 1829, then +
      Archdeacon of Surrey. He published numerous sermons, lectures etc. and a poem +
      'The Shipwreck of St Paul' alluded to in Byron's 'English Bards and Scotch +
      Reviewers'. He was a great supporter of religious societies and held a yearly +
      missionary gathering at Godstone. Hannah More, Wilberforce, Venn and Macauley +
